Strap yourselves in for a fuel-injected adrenalin rush of a film that leaves all the other current offerings trailing in it’s wake!
Those of you that were disappointed by last year’s ‘Gone in 60 Seconds’ (and there were many!) – this is the big CAR film that movie should have been.
It features Paul Walker (most recently seen in ’The Skulls’) as the clean cut cop, Brian O’Conner, whose job it is to infiltrate an illegal street racing operation. The cars are fast …(and furious, of course), super customised and the drivers are seedy and menacing.
The FBI start to get interested in the racers because when they are not working on their mean machines or racing for $$$$ - they are out hi-jacking truck loads of DVD players. So into the inner circle of the speed freak circus goes our hero Brian - Armed with the necessary ‘attitude’ and a souped up Honda Civic!
The leader of the fastest car gang, Dom Toretto, is played by new hard man heart-throb Vin Diesel. Toretto is menacing, broody yet with that charisma that tends to envelop the ‘leader of the gang’. Diesel sprang to fame in last year’s low budget cult Sci-Fi flick ‘Pitch Black’ and he cranks his reputation up one more notch with this film.
The non-stop action is backed up by a robust and L O U D Soundtrack. It’s like one long music video with some of the hottest action sequences really being lifted into another dimension by the soundtrack.
There is barely time for the audience to go for a pit stop as our undercover cop hero looks to be ‘in over his head’, pausing only to get emotionally involved with Diesel’s sister, Mia, played by Panamanian beauty Jordana Brewster.
There are a few twists and turns along the way – but mainly negotiated brilliantly by the turbo powered cars!
OK, So those of you who know your films may see a similarity to many other movies of this genre. Especially surf dude epic ‘Point Break’. But who cares. With so many of this summers ‘blockbusters’ failing to deliver, action fans have had to wait a long while for a REAL adventure film. US Audiences discovered this one first and it has taken over $150million at the Box office over there in the 10 weeks it’s been released.
It’s not a thought-provoking film. No smart, witty dialogue to get your head around – BUT it blitzes onto the screen for the full 100 minutes or so. Hardly ever taking it’s foot off the throttle. Great camera work really brings the car action to life. It’s real ‘in your face’ stuff. The characters are ‘off the peg’ from Action Films R Us, but at least you won’t fall asleep or start squirming in your seat asking your mate “What’s going on?”
Like I said at the start it’s everything you wanted ‘Gone in 60 seconds’ to be and MORE – Plus it does not have Vinnie Jones in it.

I am a car man myself so this film really appealed to me. So much so that I recently did an op on my top ten films and this made it to number 7. Enough said really. Excellent op. Darren.
Advantages: Back to the cruising scene with great cars, great sound systems and great girls. Action packed Disadvantages: It's not as good as Fast and Furious, poor acting, unrealistic story
Advantages: Plenty of action, nice effects, Vin Diesel, no need to think too hard. Disadvantages: Not really any, unless you're expecting something that it's not.
