Advantages: Problem solving and mouse skills practice and attention/observation training. Disadvantages: Difficult in places for the age range implied.
This is not the place for an in-depth review of the Author Enid Blyton, nor a walk-through of this PC CD Rom game. The purpose of this consumer opinion is to help parents decide if they should get this CD for their children.
Both my sons (4 and 6 now) get very exited at the sound of the music introducing this set of games. It is the anticipation of an interactive element of adventure not usually present in most games for children. Not as immersive an experience as in the Tomb Raider series, or Resident Evil series or even Spyro the Dragon series. Nonetheless, the FamousFive series of games (4 to date) are still addictive enough despite their slightly limited graphical interaction compared with the 3D-engine-driven games mentioned above. Advantages: Good read for children Disadvantages: none
The first in 21 books on the FamousFive by Enid Blyton. This is the start of many adventurous times for the main Characters Julian, Dick, George, Anne and not forgetting Timmy the dog. The story start out when Julian, Dick and Annes parents decide to send them to stay with there Aunt Fanny, Uncle Quentin and cousin Georgina. At the begining Georgina dislikes her cousins and is not willing at first to give them a chance. Georgina is as much like a boy in the stories as Julian and Dick hence why she is called George. This the first book is based around the exciting adventure they have on Kirren Island. If you want to know more I recommend you read the book. I read these books as a child and really enjoyed them after my own mother suggested I read them now my own children enjoy them as well. ...
'What a jolly nice day, isn't it Timmy? Anyone for some ginger beer!?'
The FamousFive are books to grow up with, and books to grow old with. I don't think there was any book more influencial in my childhood, fuelling my desire for adventure and mystery (which, by the way, I never found, but I did get a good spy kit from woolworths).
Throughout the series you follow George, a little girl who hates being a little girl, her dog Timmy and her cousins Julian, Dick, and Anne on their many adventures and picnics.
A series full of smugglers, orangeade, hidden passages, famers, delicious food, supicious looking characters, sliding panels, trips to the beach, hiking, and camping, these are truly enjoyable stories that will be loved by children forever. ...
