...going to eventually realise that the key to a successful movie has nothing whatsoever to do with how famous the cast is.? Okay so the majority of films that make money are bursting with celebrities, but this should not detract from the fact that films with unknowns are potentially just as popular. Take ‘The Usual Suspects’, a mixture of semi famous faces and total unknowns, now one of the most popular films of the nineties, and also famous ... ...Halle Berry and Hugh Jackman. The director of both movies is incidentally Bryan Singer, who was himself unheard of and is now one of the most celebrated young directors today. This just proves how the cast is not what the audience really judges a film on, of course the cast matters but my point is that a good film with new actors is miles better than a bad film with famous actors.
When are directors going to eventually realise that the key to a successful movie has nothing whatsoever to do with how famous the cast is.? ‘The Faculty’, then is similar to ‘The Usual Suspects’, with stars who are unknown or have only made one film with just a very small role. When it came out it was instantly noted for its young, hip good looking cast most of who have gone onto bigger things since then. Most notably from the cast is Josh Hartnett unheard of at the time and now one of the leads in the best (or worst ) film of this year. I say best or worst as I am well aware of the arguments raging about whether Pearl Harbour is ‘Umai’ or ‘Walui’(that’s Japanese, thought Id add it in for a bit of culture). Although Hartnett had made a few films before hand, ‘The Faculty’ was the one that shot him to stardom. Another star who made his name in ‘The Faculty’ was Elijah Wood who gets his role down to perfection, pitching it exactly right as the weedy nerd cum world saving hero. The two main stars are supported by a cast of similarly unknown yet brilliant young actors who are namely, Clea Duvall, Laura Harris, Shawn Hatosy and Bebe Neuwirth. My personal favourite is Clea Duvall as the wonderfully bitchy Stokeley who also provides the love interest. And of couse where would this film be without Famke?
Added to the hip young cast is Robert Patrick who is very hip, but not as young. The addition of him to the cast was an interesting and bold move as most of us still see him as the T- 1000, and when you’ve played a part as big as that its like being James Bond, its very hard to see them as another character. Patrick doesn’t help matters as his acting style is very…well…robotic. He moves and speaks in a cold mechanical way making him totally convincing as a robot or alien but unconvincing as anything else. Thank god he only had one line in ‘Die Hard 2’, and even there he was very measured which made him a good henchman, and I’m sure he will also be good in the X files, as the style of acting required remains the same as previous roles. But aside from that is a gifted actor and his role of the evil coach is perfectly believable and succeeded in getting him better parts.
The film was written by the man who gave us ‘Scream 1 and 2’ and was directed by Robert Rodriguez. The plot is simple enough to follow and understand taking place at a school and follows the strange happenings that lead to a small band of pupils taking on the aliens that are invading their town. The group of ‘heroes’ are made up of old stereotypes, namely the jock, the nerd, the new girl, the attractive know it all and the shy recluse. The layout is similar to that of ‘Scream’, basically the old “it could be any one of us, lets do some running and screaming”. But despite the familiar design and a plot that steals from every other alien film ever made, it manages to be original in its own way. The young cast really help breathe life into an old idea and the movie manages to be gross but not too disgusting, making it acceptable to gore loving older brothers and little sisters alike. There is also a lot of swearing which with either raise or lower your opinion of the film depending on whether or not you find it necessary, its no South Park but for a 15 it has more F s than my report card.
The tone of the film is light hearted and not to be taken seriously, keep an open mind because though intelligent and slick, as films go it won’t win the plausibility award. It is genuinely scary in places and don’t think that just because it’s not an 18 that you won’t be entertained, I would say it was like Scream but with aliens. You never know what to expect and the plot twists will catch you totally off guard, the atmosphere is dark and tense with suspicion growing quickly in the characters fertile and receptive minds. The Faculty attempts to make the idea plausible and even backs itself up in a scene where old alien films are discussed to find the possibility of truth in them. Needless to say it is a creepy film with plenty of moments for perching on the edge of the seat and shouting “Don’t go out there!”.
Overall it is a well constructed and very satisfying film, all the elements for a good horror film are present and correct; scary aliens, running in dark halls, plot twists, running in dark halls, good looking cast, running in dark halls, gore and running in dark halls. This is well made, above average horror film that satisfies all the criteria and delivers more than many other alien films that had a bigger budget and an A list cast.

...soon as I heard all the reviews on the web and boy was I disappointed.
The film is about a US high school called Herrington High and the strange things that are going on there, and this is where my interest in the film seemed to end, After a few reasonable events a group of kids find out that their teachers have actually been taking over by a bunch of parasitic aliens.
The problem with this is the bunch of kids that get together to take on the ... ...it’s not entertaining anymore.
The group is headed up by a rebel by the name of Zeke played by Josh Hartnett he is of course the slacker who deals drugs never attends classes but has a very impressive IQ.
Next is Elijah Wood who plays Casey the weakling of the group who is the one we are supposed to feel for but I just didn’t care about his character at all, in fact I did a times just want him to get a pole through the head (I’m ...

Advantages: A good young cast Disadvantages: Not the strongest of storylines
The Faculty is a teenage Science Fiction film that asks you to meet the alien generation. The film was released in 1998 and has a hot young cast, which includes Josh Hartnett and Elijah Wood. Now this film certainly isn't one that I would class as in my favourites but somehow it is a film that I keep coming back to. I think the reasoning behind this is the fact that despite the cast being relatively young the acting is more than decent. Furthermore ... ...for it's 100-minute duration.
The film is based within Herrington High School where some very creepy things have started to happen. Now I'm sure at one point or another you've wondered whether your teachers are really aliens but at this school that is exactly the case and some chilling discoveries by the students confirm their worst suspicions. As the mind-controlling parasites spread rapidly from the faculty to the students it is ultimately a small ...

...anyone familiar with Invasion of the Body Snatchers and other such similar stories will probably be offended by this new age re-make. Which is essentially all it is. I'm not saying its a bad film and it's worth at least one watch for the plot line that drugs aint bad, drugs're good. The narrative follows the basic codes and convnetions of horror/sci fi with the establishing shots and intro to the main cast. There's the ...

...fans were quite excited when the 'in' writer of Scream and Director Robert Rodriguez were working together on a film that was pitched as a sci-fi horror flick that echoed Invasion of the Body Snatchers. The end result is 'The Faculty', it's an entertaining film and better than most of the teen horror flicks at the time. But considering the talent involved you can't help but feel this should have been better. The film is basically set at a school ... ...point of caring. The students meanwhile are the usual mixture of misfits and cool kids. One day a geeky kid named casey discovers an unknown organism on the football field. The sports coach has gone from an angry driven individual to a very relaxed guy while the jaded history teacher suddenly has a new ...

Released in 1998, The Faculty is a movie directed by Robert Rodriguez, who previously directed hit movies Desperado and From Dusk Til Dawn, and who has since continued his success directing the likes of Sin City. The Faculty stars a number of young actors, who at the time were up and coming, and who have since gone on to become very successful names in the movie business. These include Josh Hartnett, Elijah Wood, Jordana Brewster and r&b star Usher.

Final Destination is a great film, and the DVD has some pretty cool features.
The film is across between a thriller and a horror film. It is scary, but not in the same way as something like Sixth Sense.
The film is about a group of teenagers who are going on a school trip to Paris, one guy on the plane has a preminition that the plane is about to crash, so exits the plane. A few of his friends follow him. No one believes him, until the plane crashes! It turns out that they cheated death, they were supposed to die on the plane. Death won't let them get away with this, so tracks them down and writes a new series of events which will lead to their deaths. Can they cheat death again?
The film is very good, one of the best I have seen and definetly a must watch for all lovers of films like Fight Club, The Matrix and The Faculty ...
Advantages: The storyline is good. Disadvantages: Bad directing, slow, boring, not funny at all
I bought this DVD because of the blurb on the box "The Faculty meets American Pie." Crap! I should have remembered the old adage ' Just because it says Polo on the side of a bus doesn't mean they sell them.'
The storyline is quite unique and should have been utilised a lot better than it was.
The little town of Cherry Falls, has got a serial killer on it's hands, but this killer leaves a very unique signature. He carves virgin on the thigh of his victims. Word gets around the school that this killer is only interested in virgins, cue everyone copping off with each other and having quick knee tremblers round the back of the bike sheds?
Nope. Like typical American teens they decide to wait until they can all get together in a big old house and everyone loses their virginity at once. You can guess what's coming.
The directing ...
The kids at Herrington High make a discovery that confirms their worst suspicions - their teachers are from another planet! As mind-controlling parasites spread from the faculty to the students' bodies, it's up to the ones who are left to save the world!
