DVD Description
In this quirky documentary, codirectors Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato catch up with the infamous Tammy Faye Messner (formerly Tammy Faye Bakker) 12 years after the Jim Bakker embezzlement scandal and the collapse of the PTL (Praise the Lord) network. The Bakkers launched PTL back in 1974 and within a short time found themselves at the head of a vast televangelist empire raking in millions of dollars in member contributions. When Jim's affair with Jessica Hahn came to light, the couple was ousted from the network by Jerry Falwell. Jim ended up going to prison for fraud, and Tammy found herself alone, grappling with cancer, the aftereffects of her addiction to prescription drugs, and estrangement from her family. Abruptly removed from the public eye and virtually forgotten, Tammy Faye has since attempted several as yet unfruitful media comebacks, which are documented here. Of course, there's also the more frivolous side to Tammy's story, such as some hilarious early TV appearances involving singing hand puppets and revealing background information on her obsession with mascara. The film (narrated by drag icon RuPaul Charles) is a campy yet ultimately loving portrait of Tammy Faye, who comes across as surprisingly sympathetic, a cheerful and irrepressible survivor of many calamities.

Review: "...Lively documentary....The movie's richer, and far more fascinating, subject is the backstabbing history [of the televangelist church]..." (Entertainment Weekly, p.54, 11/08/2000)
"...Riotous without being condescending..." (Movieline, p.35, 01/08/2000)

..., where they discover Alice, very much alive, albeit suffering from her ordeal. Andy and Tammy are soon recaptured, and Alice is decontaminated. A blood test reveals that she is infected but immune to the virus, and that she is a carrier, as evidenced by her bloodshot eye.
Don learns about his wife and visits his children, who are being detained. He then makes his way to the operating theatre where Alice is held. They reconcile, kiss, and Don becomes infected, killing Alice in his viral rage. He does this by pushing his thumbs through her eyes. He then breaks into District 1, attacking soldiers and infecting the population. Scarlett rescues Tammy and Andy from containment, fleeing together as chaos spreads to the streets. Doyle and the soldiers are issued an order to take out as many of the infected as possible, which escalates...

...the islanders clap eyes on the glamorous blonde Faye.
Back on board ship whilst the crew sleeps the natives steal onboard and kidnap the heroine and take her ashore. Discovering the loss the crew sets off in pursuit and locates Faye tied by the hands between two large posts that are set outside the stockade. Before they can mount a rescue they hear wild stirrings in the jungle and mighty King Kong puts in an appearance and is immediately enchanted by our heroine. The crew now knows the purpose of the huge stockade wall. I can still hear her screams as Kong approaches and mercifully she faints and the audience gasps.
Many of the younger generation will not have seen the film so I won’t spoil it for them by divulging the tale other than to say that bearing in mind it was made in 1933 the fight scenes between Kong and other prehistoric monsters...

...should ever go out steal Manet, Monet, Degas, ... as a passe-temps, but, we do like this film because no matter who we are, deep-down in our subconscious mind lies the desire to be successful, which, somehow means being wealthy enough to allow us to indulge, satisfy all our needs, whims, and caprices, to be "rewarded" with an absorbing and adventurous life.
Pierce Brosnan and Renee Russo's affair is, perhaps, more alert, technical, and graphic (adapted for the 90's) than the original one involving Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway. I have distinct praise for the 99 rendition of this fantasy, but I believe Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway are better actors (watch their other films), and their 68 performance is just better. Do not trust me ! Watch both films on DVD or VHS, and decide. Steve McQueen has presence, is sure of himself (that is what...
