The first time I went to see this film was when it was re-released for Halloween 1998. I was sixteen and managed to get into the cinema to see this. I went with my best mate and we were totally scared! I'd never seen a film like it and spent most of the film hiding, with my best mate, behind her scarf! I have since purchased it on DVD, and we watch it regularly. It's just such an interesting film, combining issues of the health service and religion. I really love the traditional music associated with the film (Tubular Bells-Mike Oldfield) and even used to have it as a ringtone on my mobile phone. I have been told by people who saw the film when it was first released, that bits have been edited and re-mastered, and that most of the REALLY scary bits have been removed completely, but I still think this is the scariest movie I have ever seen and nothing will ever match it!

I saw this for the first time a few months ago, and couldn't work out what all the fuss was about - it's not even remotely scary!

Advantages: Great screenplay and caught Friedkin in his top form Disadvantages: remarks about the film that turn away patrons whether good or bad for its publicity
