When the exorcist was released in 1973 it shocked the world. Classed as one of the scariest horror films of all time, people were fainting in cinemas across the world after seeing this film.
I decided to buy it to see what all the fuss was about when it was released second time around in 1999. My gran had been to see it also first time round and she said it was absolutely thrilling and one of the greatest films of all time. When Iwatched it for the first time I couldnt believe some of the violent scenes and graphic detail the film goes into.
Its about a young girl who lives with her mother in a big house just outside Washington DC,USA. She starts to experience paranormal behaviour around her house after she was playing around with a ouiji board. The devil takes over her body and she turns completely mad and frightening especially for her mother. The girls head starts to spin around, She stabs herself with a metal cross and kills one of her mothers dear friends. After weeks of this going on they tie the girl to her bed and call a priest and ask him to perform exorcism on her to get rid of the bad spirits. The exorcism is so hard the main preist performing it dies. This leaves the younger one to conduct the rest of the service by himself. It ends with the devil escaping into the preists body and out of the girls. The preist cannot take it and jumps out of the window down a flight of stairs and kills himself, the devil to. The girl turns out to be ok but is scared all on her face from where she hurt herself when she went through the violent stage.
I really enjoyed watching the film just to find out what happens in the end. I didnt find it too scary but it was extremely violent. I also think the newer version has some bits cut out to the original.

Advantages: Damn scary, intelligent and very well made for a horror film Disadvantages: A little difficult to take the rotating head seriously i'm afraid!
