Awards The English Patient is the sweeping World War II romantic epic that's being compared to such legendary films as Casablanca and Doctor Zhivago. After a badly burned pilot (Ralph Fiennes) is pulled from the wreckage of his plane in the Sahara Desert he's placed in the care of an army nurse (Juliette Binoche) and identified only as "the English patient." As his memory slowly returns a passionate and consuming love affair with a married woman (Kristin Scott Thomas) is unveiled and lives from both the past and the present become inextricably altered. Set against breath taking backdrops in North Africa and Italy this film is a riveting cinematic masterpiece that stirs the heart and touches the soul like no other film in years! Cold Mountain (Dir. Anthony Minghella) (2003): In the dying days of the American Civil War a wounded soldier (Law) embarks on a perilous journey back home to Cold Mountain North Carolina to reunite with his sweetheart (Kidman).

This cracking comedy was released in the summer of 2003, the main character, Johnny English, basing himself self on a character originally created for a well known credit card company adverts.
Johnny English, (played by Rowan Atkinson both on the adverts and this movie) is a British secret service member, spoofing the likes of James Bond. Unfortunately, he is as competent as Inspector Jacques Clouseau (from the Pink Panther films) which does lead him into some tricky situations.
His partner, Bough, pronounced 'Boff', (played by Ben Miller) is the silent hero of the movie, always allowing Johnny to take full credit ...
Advantages: It was very funny Disadvantages: Story, acting, plot etc
Although I probably ought to have been revising, one of our tutors told us to take at least a whole day off a week. So a couple of weeks ago, I put impending Finals out of my mind, and spent a constructive Saturday (writing music reviews, playing pool, punting, watching a mate's band play Exeter's 'party in the park', Pizza Hut, cinema, George & Davies ice cream and a friends for relatively late night G&T and chat). So that's where Johnny English fits in to my revision schedule...
The choice was X Men 2, How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days and Johnny English, and you'll know by now which we chose... I knew it was a Bond-esque spy spoof starring Rowan Atkinson, but that was about it. My biggest concern was whether I'd be able to put Mr Bean out of my head - as it happened, not much problem, but I kept thinking of that guy from the Barclaycard ...

DVD Description
THE ENGLISH PATIENT is an epic, sweeping adaptation of Michael Ondaatje's richly layered, WWII-era novel chronicling two periods in the life of European explorer Count Laszlo Almasy, whose torrid affair with a colleague's wife is countered by the beginning of the war, allegations of Nazi sympathies, and disfiguring injuries. The patient's stay at the ruins of an Italian monastery under the care of an emotionally injured French-Canadian nurse serves as a framing device for his intriguing story.
In COLD MOUNTAIN Ada Monroe is a proper lady who accompanies her preacher father to Cold Mountain, North Carolina. She waits for her love, W.P. Inman--a sensitive man of few words--to return from war. In the process she learns basic survival skills and finds strength from no-nonsense Ruby, a spitfire who can work the land as well as any man. Meanwhile, wounded Inman has had enough of war and killing, and is slowly working his way back to Ada despite the perils of being a Confederate deserter.
