silent film era to the invention of talkies.Born in London in 1899, by the age of sixteen Hitchcock had taken a serious interest in cinema and found himself most influenced, both technically and visually by the early masters of silent film, Griffith, Murnau and Fritz Lang. In the early twenties, Hitchcock's training as a draftsman enabled him to take a job designing little cards for the then fledgling silent film industry.IN 1929, Hitchock directed Blackmail, hailed as a film which used sound and dialogue with more flair and imagination than any Hollywood or European film of the time. In particular, Hitchcock's inventive and expressionist use of sound demonstrated that the new technology opened a new realm of possibilities. In the wake of Blackmail, there were searches for new challenges. These included an adaptation of a high profile West End play, The Skin Game (1931), two more thrillers Murder! (1930), Number Seventeen (1932), and an intriguingly odd martial drama, the appropriately titled Rich and Stranger (1932).Presented together for the first time, with many of them unavailable in the UK before, these nine films are a must for any film enthusiast and Hitchcock fan.Silent Movies:- The Ring (1928).- Champagne (1928).- The Farmer's Wife (1929).- The Manxman (1930).Talkies:- Blackmail (1929). - Murder! (1930).- The Skin Game (1931).- Rich and Strange (1932).- Number Seventeen (1932).

Advantages: An aesthetically pleasing collection Disadvantages: Some rather poor inclusions
...A selection of classic Hammer films from the very good to...not so good. An aesthetically pleasing set for fans of the studio, or those wanting at least half of the titles. Features star favourites Peter Cushing, Raquel Welch, Ursula Andress and Christopher Lee (about whom there is an interesting documentary with 'Scars of Dracula').
The extra features vary greatly, the biggest ommission, in my opinion, is the total absence of subtitles for the hearing impaired.
For those who are interested all films are anamorphic, some for the first time, and completely uncut.
My personal favourite was the inclusion of the 1965 film 'The Nanny' which stars a very chilling Bette Davis in a well scripted, and often overlooked role.
Probably a tad overpriced for most, but new DVD versions of individual films are also available, so take...

Included are nine DVDs showing will at his best and to be honest in 2 films not really his best. Anyhow, what follows is a nine disc synopsis and my views on each movie.
The box contains a huge unfolding DVD holder into which all 9 DVDs are held.
Enjoy

Advantages: loads of bonus features Disadvantages: none
...This is the king of all boxsets, its amazing. It has all of the matrix films plus loads of special features. Its not really for anyone who hasnt seen any matrix films yet but if your a fan its totally worth buying. Its great value for money as aswell as getting all the films you get 35 hours of special features. Overall its one of the best boxsets I have ever come across and would recomend it to anyone. Its for anyone 15 years and older and inside there are 10 discs including films and special features. In my opinion this is quite cheap as I got it for much more so I would advise anyone to get it here. I would give it 10/10....
