REJECTS continues the story of a bizarre group of very odd people who like to torture, maim, and kill virtually everyone they come in contact with. When Sheriff Wydell (William Forsythe) pays a visit to the body-ridden lair of Mother Firefly (Leslie Easterbrook, taking over the role played by Karen Black in the first film), her children Otis (Bill Moseley) and Baby (Sheri Moon Zombie) are forced to run, eventually holing up in a roadside motel with four hostages (including Clint Eastwood regular Geoffrey Lewis and THREE'S COMPANY star Priscilla Barnes). Seeking help from creepy clown Captain Spaulding (Sid Haig), they continue their murderous rampage while being tracked by Wydell, who is hellbent on avenging the death of his brother, which came at the hands of this very weird and dangerous family. As Wydell tortures Mother Firefly for answers, Otis and Baby torture their hostages for kicks. Zombie, a heavy metal musician who leads the group White Zombie, infuses his exciting, funny, and terrifying gorefest with a fabulous 1970s soundtrack, using such songs as Elvin Bishop's 'Fooled Around And Fell In Love' and David Essex's 'Rock On' at inappropriately riotous moments. Part BONNIE AND CLYDE, part THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, part THE WILD BUNCH, Zombie's bloody barrage is filled with unexpected plot twists and surprises unique to this genre.

All this changes with The Devil's Rejects. Based on the exploits of a twisted and violent family the film throws away much of the story from the original and reinvents the family as a slightly more functional Texas Chainsaw Massacre brood.
Basically cut in two halves, the film spends the first part establishing how violent and unpleasant the family are - and does it with a blood drenched sequence of vignettes that leave everyone cold. When I watched the film in the cinema I'd never seen so many people leave. For perhaps the first time since the seventies we see a real sense of sexual violence on the screen and it's very hard to watch. By the time the family make it to their supposed safe haven they've left a trial of violence and blood for their Sheriff nemesis to pursue.
It's here that the film changes, taking it's 1970's aesthetic even further and becoming an outlaw film. Putting the family through hell themselves initially seems cathartic but somehow Zombie leaves you rooting for them by the end.
It's a great ride and well worth watching if you're a fan of Peckinpah or early Wes Craven and Tobe Hooper - it's also hands down the most intelligent horror film made for years.
The double disc set includes some great extras including the feature length making off that only falls down due to an early finish - it would have been great to explore the editing and critical reaction as part of the extra as well.
If you like horror that's blood red and morally dubious it won't get better than this. However be warned, this isn't a film like modern horrors, it's been dragged up from the depths of one of the most violent and unpleasant movie decades of all time - and the difficulty in watching certain scenes reflects this.
Last word to the soundtrack - perfect, just perfect
Advantages: really good story Disadvantages: ok ending
...it wasnt scary but gory. The idea of the situations are scary and those who do not like scenes of a very violent nature or blood and guts will not enjoy this film as it doesnt make you jump but their is lots of violence.
The film is about a killer family who seek money, love, and revenge very similar to natural born killers but much more modern and i would say more exciting.
The acting isnt fantastic and i dont think i knew any of the actors, but ... ...up for any poor acting. The setting was remote and camera angles were clever and made the film very interesting.
I was dissappointed with the ending and felt it was a let down after the excitement of the main story, but it is still a good watch. Great for a sit down with friends and a nice easy watch.
I recently read a lot of other reveiws on this film and another film that popped up a lot was "1000 corpses", i personally havent ever watched this ...
