The follow-up to his 2003 horror hit HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES, Rob Zombie's THE DEVIL'S ... more
REJECTS continues the story of a bizarre group of very odd people who like to torture, maim, and kill virtually everyone they come in contact with. When Sheriff Wydell (William Forsythe) pays a visit to the body-ridden lair of Mother Firefly (Leslie Easterbrook, taking over the role played by Karen Black in the first film), her children Otis (Bill Moseley) and Baby (Sheri Moon Zombie) are forced to run, eventually holing up in a roadside motel with four hostages (including Clint Eastwood regular Geoffrey Lewis and THREE'S COMPANY star Priscilla Barnes). Seeking help from creepy clown Captain Spaulding (Sid Haig), they continue their murderous rampage while being tracked by Wydell, who is hellbent on avenging the death of his brother, which came at the hands of this very weird and dangerous family. As Wydell tortures Mother Firefly for answers, Otis and Baby torture their hostages for kicks. Zombie, a heavy metal musician who leads the group White Zombie, infuses his exciting, funny, and terrifying gorefest with a fabulous 1970s soundtrack, using such songs as Elvin Bishop's 'Fooled Around And Fell In Love' and David Essex's 'Rock On' at inappropriately riotous moments. Part BONNIE AND CLYDE, part THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, part THE WILD BUNCH, Zombie's bloody barrage is filled with unexpected plot twists and surprises unique to this genre.

This movie has sometimes been referred to 'House of A Thousand Corpses 2'. Although this is the sequel to 'House of a Thousand Corpses' writer and director Rob Zombie went with the title 'Devil's Rejects' because of the poor reviews 'corpses' had.
So here comes the plot outline........
Devil's Rejects is set some months after the events in the movie 'corpses'. Right from the beginning of the movie, the Texas police are hot on the tail of the Firefly family who have killed more people than Adolph Hitler, hence the 1000 corpse's title of the first. The Texas rangers only manage to capture one family member, leaving three other members escaping to cause even more despicable acts of torture, humiliation and murder. The Firefly fugitives are on their way to seek refuge in a run-down amusement park owned by the mad clown Captain Spaulding, who is their half brother, but this is not before they torture and mangle other families and innocent passers by on their way. Sheriff John Wydell will not rest until the Firefly family are captured, following the death of his brother in the first movie who was killed by the Firefly's. However, Sheriff Wydells torture of his murdered brother takes him way beyond giving the family a fair trial. Arrest and imprisonment no longer seems the suitable punishment, he wants to make the family suffer just as much as the victims they tortured and murdered in the most gruelling way he can think of.
So what did I think of this movie?.............
The movie itself, and like the prequel, is a Texas Chainsaw Massacre stroke Wes Cravens Last House on the Left sort of movie. It certainly has a lot of gore, and very disturbing scenes. Although I thought the movie got rather daft at times, I stuck with it and did really began to appreciate Rob Zombies work with the directing, and the characters with the plot he had written. The movie captures the audience by having much of its content portrayed to make you squirm and your skin crawl as much as possible. It really made me think how awful it would be if me and my own family was captured by these ruthless murderers. The poetic justice once Sheriff Wydell catches up with the Firefly family definitely makes the movie more tolerable and entertaining.
Rob Zombie's Prequel to this movie was known as very controversial, and this time round he is not even remotely playing it safe, showing you just how much fun he really is having with the camera by showing just how cruel and violent the world we live in can be. I liked his approach to the movie, using freeze frame and swipe methods. The soundtrack did go well with the movie, using a lot of seventies rock tunes, which fits well into Rob Zombies idea of making this a slasher road trip movie.
Although I have never heard of any of the actors portraying these characters in this movie, they most certainly keep you glued to the screen with some amazing performances as complete redneck devil worshippers. I have never felt so much hatred towards any characters than I have in this movie, which I guess just shows you how convincing they were. They were truly evil, dishing out the goriest, and blood thirsty, vulgar acts on completely innocent people.
For me, Sheriff Wydells character, played by William Forsythe, was the one who stood out the most. He acted out a wide range of emotions well, and was the centre point and main character of the movie. Once he appears on the screen I always got the sense of complete anger and despair he was feeling, and hope he got the vengeance instead of any court. Bloody hell, I wanted to jump into the screen and help him!

DVD EXTRAS:
Audio commentary with Director Rob Zombie Actor audio commentary Blooper reel Gallery, trailers and TV spots Make up Tests
The extras that accompany this DVD are well worth the watch and make a great addition to the purchase of the movie itself. I liked to hear the thoughts behind Rob Zombies outlook on his movie; it was very interesting to know what he was thinking whilst making the movie. Also the blooper reels are brilliant, showing off just how normal the actors are who played such horrible characters, they were so convincing in the movie I would have carried on hating them if it were not for this. And also, take a look at the make up tests, which just shows you how much effort they really did put into this movie.
And my conclusion is finally here...........
A story of the most violent, horrific murders you can imagine dished out by the most vulgar people, accompanied by poetic revenge!
This movie is not for the faint hearted, definitely NOT for everyone. If you are a fan of Rob Zombies, you would love it. It does contain daft and sometimes humorous scenes, but this is completely over shadowed by gore, despicable and disturbing acts of murder. I invite you all, if you dare, to delve into the mind of Rob Zombies, and be prepared for a stomach churning roller coaster!
Advantages: Funny, fairly original, well shot, good horror Disadvantages: May be too 'uncomfortable' for some
The Devil's Rejects is writer/director Rob Zombie's sequel to House of 1000 Corpses, set some months after the events of the first film. For the murderous Firefly family, it's business as usual, with the other family members relaxing at home whilst Tiny is off burying their latest victim, until Sheriff Wydell and his boys turn up at the house for a showdown. After a shootout of epic proportions, Mother Firefly finds herself in police custody with ... ...a road trip together, with the aim of meeting up with Baby's father, the equally psychotic Captain Spaulding, leaving many more corpses in their wake.
It's not really necessary to have seen the first film in order to understand or appreciate The Devil's Rejects as a film in its own right. It would help to be familiar with the characters and to know what evil they are capable of, but to be honest, I'm still not 100% on these details even after having ...

Quick review of The Devil's Rejects DVD Review ofThe Devil's Rejects (DVD)by

If you like gory B movies then this is for you. Pleanty of blood and gore and generally sickening violence. I felt there was no real plot just a vague outline of most characters getting killed in one way or another. If your squemish this is not for you! If you want a way to pass an afternoon then its ok but dont expect great things.

Advantages: Comedy, horror, gore, the gorgeous Sheri Moon Zombie - and a cast of well known faces! Disadvantages: What disadvantages? This is my second favourite movie of all time! I can't say a bad word about it!!
...of 1000 Corpses 2 is the greatest homage to horror that there has ever been!
With a great tribute to the Texas ChainSaw Massacre and various other fantastic horror films.
The cast reads like a who's who of film- Michael Berryman (The Hills Have Eyes), Ken Foree (Dawn of the Dead - my favourite film of all time), Leslie Easterbrook (Police Academy), Danny Trejo (every film ever made).
With great performances from Sid Haig, Bill Moseley, Sheri Moon ... ...Dallas Page!
Whilst the House of 1000 Corpses went for an out-and-out gore fest, the Devil's Rejects goes for subtlety and humour with a dash of sheer insanity!
A fantastic film, by the end of it you'll love each and every one of the characters - even if they are psychotic murderers! Oh fly high, oh free bird yeah!!!!!!!
Plot: After the rejects kill the police chiefs brother in the first movie, Officer Wydell surrounds their house with armed police ...

House 2 Review ofThe Devil's Rejects (DVD)by

Advantages: It's Rob Zombie Disadvantages: Not as good as House of 1000 Corpses
Well not quite the sequel I expected, it's set out to stand up on its own. It has a good plot and a good story. although this time there is less blood and gore. I does feel like a much more polished and mature film. I think Rob certainly honed his directing technique on this film.
The acting is strong all except for Sheri Moon Zombie, who is only really there because she's Rob's Wife.
The Sets are good, and they all seem very realistic.
The film ... ...slash and it's also less twisted.
The features are pretty standard, trailers, documents, but there is a 2 hour on location feature, which although I haven't watched, it's a nice extra.
I think anyone who wants to see a horror film thats a little different should watch this. ...

Advantages: Plenty of gore and a cracking soundtrack! Disadvantages: None!
The follow-up movie to House of 1000 Corpses, not quite as gory as the first but it still has blood in plentiful supply! I must say i enjoyed this film a lot more than the first, it seemed to make more sense and have a better storyline. Its followable, basically. Im an avid horror movie fan, and the nod in the direction of texas chainsaw massacre should be duly noted - it's fantastically done. Of course, there is no shortage of sexyness with the ... ...Firefly!
I enjoyed this movie through and through, if, like me, you were a bit lost by house of 1000 corpses, get your hands on devil's rejects, its more fun to watch and easy to follow, with a few jokes thrown in for good measure. Has a cracking soundtrack too! ...

Advantages: Gory, troubling, difficult, acomplished Disadvantages: If you don't like horror this ain't the film for you...
...Rob Zombie's follow up to his first film (The house of 1,000 Corpses) is a light leap from the original. The first film was filled with MTV style jump cuts, a punishing and at times banal sound track and repeated shocks. Towards the end of the film it did manage a truly strange atmosphere and was something slightly different, but overall has to been seen as a failure.
All this changes with The Devil's Rejects. Based on the exploits of a twisted and violent family the film throws away much of the story from the original and reinvents the family as a slightly more functional Texas Chainsaw Massacre brood.
Basically cut in two halves, the film spends the first part establishing how violent and unpleasant the family are - and does it with a blood drenched sequence of vignettes that leave everyone cold. When I watched the film in...

Advantages: Macabre, mad and nasty Disadvantages: Incoherent and wild
...rather steal the limelight. Tiny Firefly is a more complicated creature, horribly deformed in a horrific housefire, he mutely stumbles around the place, but just seems to do what he's told. I was never quite sure whether he really wanted to be a part of things but with nowhere else to go, was just forced to stay with the fruitloop family from hell.
House of 1000 Corpses is a startling and memorable movie debut from Rob Zombie and promises great things. It is neither the most coherent nor competent example of film making that you will ever see, but it certainly fits the bill. Nasty, shocking and exciting it offers an appropriate introduction into the lives of the Firefly family. It won't be giving too much away if I warn / advise you that they are coming back soon in the sequel, The Devil's Rejects. You have been warned.
For a horror...
