Hello All, I decided to write my review on the film "The Devil Wears Prada", I really wanted to go to the cinema to see this when it first came out but never actually found the time, you know what its like something always happens to come up when you finally decide you want to do something, well this happened, three times I thought yep…I'm gonna grab the girls and go to the cinema…well no your not Mell and when I managed to get time to go and see it…guess what it wasn't on no more, so I had to wait and you know what the wait was actually well worth it!!
Sorry!! Back to the original topic…The Devil Wears Prada, it's a really good comedy, chick flick would I say?? Um yes I would. But throughout the film I couldn't help but think this reminds me of another film but just couldn't put my finger on it and still cant so if you have seen the film and know what I am on about please put me out my misery and tell me!!
It was released back in October 2006, and was directed by David Frankel and written by Aline Brosh McKenna (for the screen) but original story was written by Lauren Weisberger. It is rated a PG so the
whole family can sit and have a good old watch!! It runs for just over an hour and half.
Basic Storyline
Well…where do I start without thinking to myself if I was in her shoes I would of… But hey it's not me on that screen! Andy Sachs (Andrea) lands herself the job of a lifetime that any girl would love to have and that is to be an assistant of the top magazine company "Runway" editor Miranda Priestly! Most girls have been unsuitable but Andy makes it her mission to stay there at least a year, cos if she lasts a year she will have her pick of any job she desires. She has to put up with requests good and bad! All the staff at the Runway Magazine is all into the latest fashion and look really good and poor old Andy turns up in lets say less stylist clothes. But with the help of director Nigel he helps her become more confident and more aware of her dress sense which helps her become less vulnerable to her co-workers! She has a boyfriend but her relationship becomes very strained with all Miranda's requests… (OH MY GOD I JUST REALISED WHAT THE OTHER FILM IS THAT IS SO ALIKE THIS ONE…TWO WEEKS NOTICE!!) Andy is literally at Miranda's beck and call. But is Andy really loyal to Miranda when things take a turn??? You'll have to wait and see…
Main Characters in the film
Anne Hathaway - Andy Sachs (can she be "top-dog" Meryl Streep - Miranda Priestly (what a bitch is all I can say) Emily Blunt - Emily (Andy's co-worker and also a bully and bitch) Stanley Tucci - Nigel (Director and becomes close to Andy) Simon Baker - Christian Thompson (Offers Andy an opportunity) Adrian Grenier - Nate (Andy's Boyfriend) Tracie Thoms - Lily (Andy's friend)
Well after starting to write the storyline and realising what the film was that reminded me of this one, I am now actually comparing them, the assistants who are hired want to make a difference to the world but need help with themselves! There bosses expect them to be at there beck and call until something has to give. But hey back to The Devil Wears Prada, my opinion, I really enjoyed it, I found the bits with Andy just starting her job and not having a very good fashion sense made her co-workers basically bully her and laugh at her, which just proves that bullying happens literally everywhere. I love Miranda's attitude, she is an absolute bitch which is a nice word to describe her, her acting is amazing, her facial expressions are so good that you think "I wouldn't want to cross her", she really plays the part so well, don't think anyone else could have taken on that role so well 10/10 I would give her. Emily…well she is the first one to laugh at poor Andy but I do believe that like all bullies it is the "victim" that gets the last laugh, in my opinion they don't become friend they have an understanding if that makes sense, they know where they stand with each other. Nigel is a character I love, he was at the beginning going on about someone had eaten onions (yep it was Andy) but he is that likable character, that actually helps Andy and makes her become so much more confident within the film. I do feel for Nate, Andy's boyfriend though cos Andy is always at Miranda's beck and call which makes it so hard for them to see each other and spend time together and like Two Weeks Notice she rings Andy when she is with her friends. To be honest if I was Andy I would have told her where to stick her job, but they do end up liking each other and actually getting on and having high opinions of each other which makes it so good. I don't actually think that there was any thing I disliked about the film…except it is so identical to Two Weeks Notice!! Would I recommend this film yes I would, it is good but I do think you should watch Two Weeks Notice as well just to compare!!
Thanks for Reading Mell (June 2008)
