The women in this film are all of noticable charactistics e.g the bold strong leader (who felt an undiscovered cave would be a challenge) to the quiter but mentally strong lead charatcter. once a year they meet up for an adventure weekend were they seek a challenge and bond away from the hustle and bustle of there normal lives. The film in question is strong with some good character development that helps suck you in and care which women live through the ordeal. first hour into the clastrophobic caves are jumpy and have some great tention and the beasts add a great deal of fear which make everything come together. the main problem though is when the film kicks in the camera is all over the place and you struggle to understand what is going on and who your following within the film, which inturn ruins all the hard work done to bring up the finale. who start getting confused if someone died or what happened to them. fortunatly after all the chaotic action and things slow down the film gets back on track and uses the sense of paranioa trapped surrounded by the dark to great affect which will leave you satisfied when the end credits role...... Something to not over look
"Dog soldiers" is about the more matcho side of life following hard as nails grunts in training up in the forests of scotland. unfortunatly the lads don't really want to be training far away from home and are unamused by the weather and even less impressed there missing the famous England /Germany match. based other a weekend they are supposed to be doing tactical exercises against an SAS squad based around the forest but as night falls strange ery sounds of large animals can be heard and the lads feel something else maybe in the woods with them. by moring things go all wrong as they find the opponents camp ravaged and armed with real weapons but unsual ones like tranquilsers and heavy duty nets. The grunts no something is up and its not long before there chased by large wolfs. A mysteryous women comes to the grunts rescue and the film gets largely based at an old stone house were the large werewolfs take siege on them, it becomes a battle of wills and survival when there is no way out. personal favourite of mine with some brilliant acting from the soldiers who really bring this film to life. the werewolfs are fanatastic and don't look like awful fur balls, they look really beleivable and alot of work has gone in to give this film a great polished end product if your a horror fan you must watch this
"28 days later" typical animal rights activists break into a reasearch lab to free monkeys that have been experimented on, unfortuantly no-one told them these monkeys are infected with a genetic virus called rage and an epidemic ensues wiping out most of Britain. from there your taken through a journey of one mans survival against the odds against zombies that can run and even the slightest hint of there blood turns you into one of the infected. the opening scenes are breath taking with the deserted london being a real sight to behold even for computer imagery...its extremely believable and gives the whole sense of eerieness a huge boost and makes things seem like it could happen in the near future. the pace the film goes at is incredible as the film is never far from action or jumps to keep you intrested. the support characters are intresting and vary enough to keep things fresh and exciting and leave you wondering what will happen next or who will die. the problem is the film has such a wide choice of paths to lead it self that it kinda runs out of steam in the end and has a very poor ending which leaves you annoyed how they could ruin a film at the end but there is enough to keep you hooked until the disappointment.
the boxset is great for the basic night in watching and wanting some quality horror done right.

DVD Description
Includes the horror films THE DESCENT, DOG SOLDIERS, and 28 DAYS LATER. In THE DESCENT, a group of girls seek adventure on a caving expedition. Deep inside underground caves they find themselves cut off from the world and off the map. Battling to get back to the surface they realise that they are being hunted by an unknown cannibalistic force. Now they must pull together and fight for their very survival. In DOG SOLDIERS, a troop of British soldiers on operations in the Scottish Highlands have more than enough to worry about since England is set to play Germany in a World Cup qualifier. When they discover the remains of a previous unit they realise they're in trouble. Holed-up in an old farmhouse they find themselves surrounded by the occupants - blood thirsty werewolves. In 28 DAYS LATER, a deadly virus escapes from a research centre and within twenty eight days Britain is infected with the exception of a few survivors. Together they try to build a future for themselves.
