In Love With Shakespeare

Advantages: Beautiful period piece with a great cast and there are sword fights guys.
Disadvantages: It's a girly, romantic film and nothing blows up. Sorry guys.

Clunes is equally as wonderful as his competitor, Richard Burbage. Tom Wilkinson really does steal almost every scene he's in as the money lender, Hugh Fennyman. It is fun to see Colin Firth as an unattractive marriage partner considering his usual roles and Ben Affleck manages to convince me to like him (and I am not generally a fan!) as the leading man of the day, Ned Alleyn. BONUS FEATURES The dvd comes with a few Bonus Features including the theatrical trailers for the film and a documentary on the love that the film industry has for Shakespeare and "Romeo and Juliet" in general. It's actually quite a lovely and interesting documentary. Looking back "Shakespeare In Love" was a product of a time when Hollywood was enamoured of huge, period romances of love in the face of adversity. "Titanic" had been the big winner at the Oscars ...

On the streets of Philadelphia

Advantages: Excellent performances, story and sound track
Disadvantages: None

. He must have been pretty good as he won an Oscar for his performance. It is quite surprising that with such a challenging subject, Philadelphia managed to attract such big audiences. The success has been partly put down to director Jonathan Demme getting Bruce Springsteen to provide the title track for the film, which he felt would attract more people. Whether this is the reason, Springsteen's song "Streets of Philadelphia" really encapsulates the feeling of the film with some very moving lyrics. The main character of the film is Andrew Beckett, played by Tom Hanks (Saving Private Ryan), a successful lawyer who is being guided by his bosses at the law firm until they find out he is a Homosexual with AIDS. In the movie we see Beckett's health suffer as the effects of AIDS ravish his body. Too try and make his portrayal as realistic as ...

And all the world shall be in love with night

Advantages: Beautiful, romantic, wonderful cast and amazing costumes!
Disadvantages: Make sure you have the kleenex ready!

Shakespeare in Love (1998) A film directed by John Madden. Starring: Joseph Fiennes as Will Shakespeare Gwyneth Paltrow as Viola De Lesseps Colin Firth as Lord Wessex Ben Affleck as Ned Alleyn Shakespeare in Love is a true genius of a film - it takes someone we know a great deal about in the sense of his writing, and turns a whole spectacular tale around him about his muse, his inspiration, his reasons for writing. These, of course, being things we shall never know, as we will never have the chance to ask Mr William Shakespeare why exactly he wrote Romeo and Juliet, or the Taming of The Shrew. Set in 16th century London, full of rats and smelly people and the glorious colours of naturally dyed fabrics, this is film is surely a feast for the senses. The story follows Young Will, or Master Shakespeare as we come to ...
