Plot
This is a disaster film about devastating climate changes. The story revolves around Jack Hall (Dennis Quaid) who is a Paleoclimatologist (studies Past and Current climate changes)and with the help of his colleague find out that the effects of global warming are going to happen sooner rather than later. When i say sooner i mean more or less straight away. It start in Japan where they are on the receiving end of giant hailstones, Los angeles and nearby places get torn apart by tornadoes and still the government refuse to listen to Jack Halls claims. By now things have got a lot worse with violent storms ripping apart various towns and countries. As it gets worse and the USA is currently seeing the next ice age, Jack son Sam (Jake Gyllenhaal) is trapped in New YorkCity that is covered with snow
and ice. Wlii his dad be able to find him and save him.

Even though this film is not in the horror genre it is one of the scariest i have seen. The fact that it could realistically happen in our future really makes it one of the most fearful films ever made. With all the scare over global warning this film really makes you think. The acting was great with a well put together cast. It is fast paced and contains a lot of action. The scenes showing The USA covered in snow and the Statue of Liberty being hit by high waves were fantastic. The effects are amazing and i would give the film on a whole a rating of 10/10.

NEW YORK POST
Disaster movies, from "The Poseidon Adventure" to "Towering Inferno," are impossible to take seriously and "Day" is no exception - it's simply a fast-moving pageant of end-of-the-world eye candy.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY
A decent disaster pic comes down to the handful of colorful individuals who will live (or, depending on the prominence of their billing, die), as it has since the days of chewy disaster meatballs like ''The Towering Inferno'' and ''Earthquake.'' And the heaviest lifting in Emmerich's production falls to Dennis Quaid and Jake Gyllenhaal

TV GUIDE
The generally competent B-list actors are hobbled by cliché-ridden dialogue but do their best to react
in remotely plausible ways each time the script nails them with some new melodramatic contrivance.

Plot
July 2nd, Captain Steven Hiller (Will Smith) goes out to fetch the morning paper from his driveway to find that a very large alien mothership is hovering over the USA. The mothership releases a few dozen smaller ships that take their places in the sky, hovering over major cities in the world like New york, Paris, London, LA and Rome. The aliens destroy these cities and the millions of people that reside in them and take down every famous landmark known to man. On july the 4th the world unite against the aliens but every attempt by the president (Bill Pullman) and the government to destroy these craft fail. Firing missiles is useless due to the forcefield surrounding the craft. An alien is captured and taken to Area 51 where they have been hiding an alien sapcecraft from 50 years ago. They try to communicate with it and find out why they have come to earth. The hero of the day is David Levinson (Jeff Goldblum) when he finds away to remove the forcefield allowing them to have a chance against the unwelcome species.

There is a great deal of action in the film and a lot of battles between alien and man. The special effects are fantstic, especially the airbourne fights when the aliens are firing at the air force and vice versa. The acting is second to none, with a pairing like Jeff Goldblum and Will Smith (both great actors) you get a few laughs along side. If you are an action fanatic or even if youre not this film is one of the best. I am not that keen on Action films (Horror films are my fave) but i thouroughly enjoyed this one. Its a definite must see if you havent already.

TV GUIDE
The aliens, meanwhile, are a fabulously nasty lot of slimy, tentacled, malevolent telepaths, but all their superior technology is no match for our red, white and blue ingenuity. Take that, space bullies!

VARIETY
The cutting-edge perfection of effects in Cameron and Spielberg films is replaced here by work that looks more homemade, particularly toward the end in some faintly cheesy composite shots.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY
It's the first futuristic disaster movie that's as cute as a button. Which, when all the special effects blow over, is what we Americans like in a monster hit.
