and bravery of an audacious raid on the centre of Nazi Germany’sindustrial complex, and the quintessentially English combination ofinventiveness and dogged determination.Split into two distinct sections, the film deals first with the fraught, but ultimatelysuccessful development of a new weapon by Dr. Barnes N. Wallis (MichaelRedgrave). The second and pacier section deals with the mission itself duringthe British raid on the Ruhr Dams, and its associated costs for the enemy andfor the British airmen.Adapted by R.C. Sherriff from Paul Brickhill’s book Enemy Coast Ahead andfeaturing superlative special effects photography by Gilbert Taylor (to saynothing of Eric Coates’ stirring theme tune), The Dam Busters was Britain’sbiggest box-office success of 1955. Shot in black and white to allow theintegration of original footage of the bomb trails, the film boasts a gritty’,documentary-style reality.

to destroy the Möhne, Sorpe and the Eder Dam's in an attempt to cripple Germany's ability to make war. The reality was that although two of the Dams were breached, output was back to pre-raid levels just over one month later. (That however is outside the remit of the film).
What is distinctive about the movie is that it dedicates a lot of time (around three quarters of it) on Wallis and his idea for the bouncing bomb, from initial tests which involved shooting a marble across a water filled container, up until testing the full sized test bomb, with the actual raid only taking up the last quarter of the film. This makes the DamBusters a kind of mini biography on Wallis himself rather than the end result of what happened with his invention. But it isn't a science filled bore of a film with lots of physics and mathematics, but instead ...
Advantages: Richard Todd... Lancaster Bombers...... Disadvantages: It's a true story.
I share a birthday with a very famous Actor, by the name of Richard Todd. Richard Todd starred in a very famous and true film, called... The Dambusters.
The Dambusters is about the attack which took place on the Moehne, Eder and Sorpe Dams in Germany in 1943.
On the evening of the 16th of May, 1943, 19 Lancaster Bombers set out from R.A.F Scampton in Lincolnshire, to bomb and destroy these three targets. It was all the brain child of one Dr Barnes Neville Wallis. He had invented a bomb that could blow up a target by bouncing across water, and sinking down below the water to detonate at a certain depth.
In the early morning of May 17th, this was carried out with true grit and bravery.
The Dambusters is the story of what happened from the inventing of the bombs, and the dropping of them.
Initially, it was said that ...

When visiting Las Vegas there are a few things you should do, apart from loosing all your spending money in the casinos. Trust me, you will loose, the casinos will win in the end, they are designed that way.
Everyone, when in the area, should try and do one of two trips, of course both would be best: visit Grand Canyon - that big hole in the ground will leave you breathless - as well as take time out to see one of the 7 engineering wonders of the world, the one and only Hoover Dam. If you are pushed for time, Hoover Dam is the better option as it is only about 30 miles outside Las Vegas compared to the Grand Canyon with approx 280 miles (but doable in half a day if you either fly there or use a helicopter) and easily reached by either tour bus or rental car. And you don't need that much time either. Official tours can be booked in ...

DVD Description
One of the most popular British war films of all time, THE DAM BUSTERS tells the true story of one of the most daring and brilliant raids of World War II. With the campaign for Europe in the balance, Dr. Barnes Wallis (Michael Redgrave) comes up with an ingenious design for a bouncing bomb which could be used to target the great dams in Germany's Ruhr valley. Wing Commander Guy Gibson (Richard Todd) leads the specially-convened squadron on a mission that would become symbolic for the Allies eventual victory over Germany.
