If you have read the book, this should of been the one film which you could not wait to see. If you have not read the book you may of noticed the hype.
In my opinion the film in no way lives upto the book but for a fast paced murder thriller it is certainly worth a watch or two. There are only a couple of plot deviations and changes from the book, which for Hollywood is quite good going.
To enjoy this movie you do not have to have much knowledge of the grail stories or symbolism. This film gives you explanations throughout the movies. Just a little knowledge of the story of Jesus will suffice.
With a good cast led by Tom Hanks and ably supported by Ian Mckellen, Paul Bettany and Jean Reno, this is the story about religion, murder, symbolism and a quest to find the greatest secret of all time.
The movie starts with the murder of a curator in the world famous Louvre museum in Paris. With clues and symbolism left at the murder scene, the police call in a symbolism expert who happens to be in Paris at the time to help them solve the murder.
Unbeknownst to Robert Langdon the expert called in, he is the prime suspect in the murder but thanks to the murdered curators granddaughter, he escapes this trap and using the clues left in clever ways at the scene, the pair of them start on the trail of the "Grail".
From this point the action and thrills move on at a pace and from country to country, while the pair solve the clues left for them a murderous monk is chasing after them to find the "grail" for his shadowy masters from within and without the Catholic church.
There are amazing theories throughout this movie that keep you wondering and keeps your mind working on possible clues, right up until the climax of the movie, which will not disappoint unless you have read the book and even then not too much.
This film is definately worth watching no matter the hype and if you love thrillers this is one film which will not disappoint unlike a lot of films out there.

It was nicely balanced and gives a fair idea for people who have not read the book. In my view the film stands on its own as well above average i.e. it is rubbish but not absolute rubbish like the rest, so remains entertaining and the team were obviously trying. As to the ideas involved, especially as they obviously provoked some interest, there is a little more to say......

Advantages: Fun, fast paced and intelligent. A great cast and enjoyable to watch. Disadvantages: Somewhat of a let down in some respects to the book (but could be worse)
