collection, which hit the shops in 2001. Perhaps an explanation for this delay is the band's sometimes contradictory concern to promote their music rather than their image. This is further demonstrated by the simple, formulaic videos on the collection which, apart from "Give Me a Reason", all feature the four hammering their respective instruments. This drives home another important distinction between them and other contemporary pop acts, which Caroline and co have always been keen to promote: they know how to play their instruments, and passionately. The serious and grey unplugged videos for "Radio" and "Everybody Hurts" also further highlight these concerns of credibility. "Love to Love You", featuring footage of the band on an early tour, does look decidedly cheap and nasty but not all the videos are equally drab: produced at the pinnacle of their global success, "Breathless" and the tongue-in-cheek promo to "Would You Be Happier" are glossy, big-budget affairs, which generate a much-needed feel-good factor that is notably absent from a lot of their other videos. On the DVD:The Best of the Corrshas digital stereo versions of 18 of their greatest hits, plus six of these also in surround sound. For such an anthology the bonus features are especially poor, with a limited picture gallery and a DVD discography. The accompanying eight-page booklet does at least provide a useful insight into the making of the videos. It's also pleasing to hear the early and graceful instrumental track "Erin Shore" being used as the backing track for the menus. --John Galilee

I have been a great fan of the Corrs since their album in 1996. I agree that their music has changed over the years, nevertheless I still like the Irish band and their songs.
I went to see them in concert last year and it was just GREAT !! Unfortunately Caroline was not on stage as she was pregnant and could not travel.
So, I have got all the CDs at home and it is no surprise that I bought DVDs.
The first one I bought was the best of the Corrs. It is a relevant choice if you are a big fan : if you are keen on the career of the band, you will realize that their music has changed as time went by. "Breathless" is different from "Runaway". If you prefer a period than anotheir of their work, you'd rather stick to theirs CD albums.
On the cover, you can see the photos of the four members of the band : Andrea [ lead vocals, thin whistle], Caroline [vocals, drums, bodhran], Sharon [vocals, violin] & Jim [vocals, guitar, keyboards].
About sound, you can choose between two possibilities : there are 18 videos on the linear PCM Stereo, and 6 ( "Breathless"; "Irresisitible"; "All the love in the world"; "Radio"; "Everybody hurts"; " Give me a reason") on the Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround.
It lasts about 1H15
Videos : ******** 1: Runaway The video was filmed in Dublin (Pearse street station, Phoenix park) and for me, the song has become inseparable from the band. This is definitely a romantic song, this is how it begins : "Say it's true / There's nothing like me & you (...)" It is the best-known song of the Corrs according to me.
2 : Forgiven, not forgotten It was shot in California in 1996. The song mixes celtic & pop influences.
3 : The right time The video was finished at the same time as "Forgiven not forgotten" : The atmosphere and look of the girls make me think of the sixties.
4 : Love to love you This video is a mix of different bits of live gigs in the Dublin area and a photo session.
5 : Only when I sleep It was the first single of the Corrs' second album (after "Forgiven, not forgotten", "Talkk on corners" was out in 1997) The video takes place in Los Angeles.
6 : I never loved you anyway Here, the band is filmed in an empty building, apparently abandoned with graffiti on the walls.
7 : What can I do ? How sad when love is not shared ... this is what the song is about : "What can I do to make you love me ? What can I do to make you care ? (...) Andrea is alone on a road dressed in jeans : how surprising that no one comes to help her !
8 : Dreams The corrs sang this title, originally sung by Fleetwood Mac : the video was designed to get an oriental touch : it won the best adult contemporary video from Billboards magazine in 1998.
9 : So young On top of a skyscraper in Chicago, the girls seem to have fun. Maybe this is due to their new style, revealed on the "In blue" cover, which shows a change in the band's attitude. I got the impression they had a tendency to lose their Irish influence as they became famous around the world.
10 : Runaway Another version of the video : there are bits of moments when you see the band on stage.
11 : Radio & 12 : Everybody hurts (cover of REM) are taken from the MTV Unplugged in October, 1999.
13 : Breathless I keep thinking of the Mad Max movies when I watch this video ! And yet, the video is not set in Australia but in California's Majave desert. The girls are dressed in leather and look provocative : hot !
14 : Irresistible The video was shot ij Times Square : the Corrs' pictures is projected on skyscrapers.
15 : Give me a reason This is a sad song as you may have guessed from the title. Andrea is alone in her room, in a corridor but I still do not quite grab the meaning of a horse running in this corridor ...
16 : All the love the world You can hear this song in the movie "America's sweethearts", as a consequence, Julia Roberts, John Cusak & Catherine Zeta-Jones appear in the video.
17 : Would you be happier ? My favourite one, in which the band is suggested different possibilities to present themselves : Jim as a DJ; the band in heavy metal clothes; as a RnB band. Their transformation is shot, as well as their reactions watching the video.
18 : One night This is a bonus track on this compilation : Alejandro Sanz sings with the band.
Bonuses : an 8 page booklet, with the story of each video shooting & about the songs; a gallery of 15 photos
There are reproductions of CDs & singles covers, concert tickets, concert posters.
The videos show the changes in the band from 1995 ("Forgiven not forgotten") to 2001("In Blue"). It was out in 2002 so there is nothing about "Borrowed heaven", their latest album. Nonetheless, I am sure you will enjoy this DVD !!
