Created by David Renwick Starring Richard Wilson, Annette Crosbie, Dorren Mantle, Angus Deaton, Janine Duvitski and Owen Brenman.
One foot in the grave began in 1990 and ran for 6 series, producing 35 episodes, (with 7 Christmas specials and a comic relief episode). The show mainly revolved around O.A.P. Victor Meldrew, (played superbly by Richard Wilson) and his views through life. The series starts with Victor being replaced at work by a machine thus forcing early retirement for him. We then follow the exploits of the forever complaining Victor, with his continuous run of bad luck and misunderstandings. The viewer will no doubt begin to feel sorry for Victors long suffering wife, Margaret, (played by Annette Crosbie), who sticks by her husband no matter what.
The laughter continues through the entire series, there are the disputes and misunderstanding with the next door neighbours Patrick Trench, (played by Angus Deayton) and his wife Pippa, (played by Janine Duvitski). The hilarious scenarios in which Angus often catches Victor in are side splittingly funny. And with the over friendly charity worker Nick Swainey, (played by Owen Brenman) living as the neighbour on the other side the laughter is none stop.
One of the other main characters is Margaret's friend Jean Warboys, (played by Doreen Mantle) who appears in several episodes and plays her part to perfection.
Each episode has its great selection of laughter as we watch Victor stumble through life with some disastrous consequences, the list of events is too vast to list.
Also watch the episode called 'one foot in the Algarve' which was brilliantly scripted show, involving a donkey, a swimming pool and a not so happy Boxer…. Hilarious
Victor Meldrew became a house hold name in the U.K. with his catch phrase 'I don't believe it'.
Sadly, the show came to its finale with no chance of a return. (telling you why may spoil the show).
So if you like to sit and watch some moaning person have all the bad luck in the world then this show is for you…… Fantastically funny and you know there are people who actually live this way.
