This film from Martin Scorsese in his earlier days is an absolute masterpiece, If you have seenthe old film 'The Hustler originally released in the early sixties then this basically is a continuation from that, for those of you that havent it is as the film title would suggest about a Fast but brilliant pool hustler that goes round making money etc by hustling rich folk and winning competitions.

The main character in the original Hustler movie Fast Eddie Felzon is now a middle aged man who has pretty much finished in the world of pool but he one day comes along a young kid who reminds him much of himself at a younger age. The problem is the young kid has no control, he makes it very obvious when he is hustling and doesn;t know how to allow a few games to be lost before winning for the bigger stake, He just keeps winning as he hates losing.

The young kid who is in this film played by a very young Tom Cruise is late teens early 20's sort of age and Fast Eddie (Paul Newman) decides to get him onside and teach him how to hustle like a pro.

Enough about the story, now onto my opinioln of this film! The film is well directed as would be expected from Martin Scorsese and it moves at a good pace. The acting is in my opinion fantastic, especially given this films release date. The characters are gritty but believable and you feel yourself wanting Fast Eddie to sort out the young kid. The soundtrack is also very good and fits into the film just right to keep the pace and enthusiasm going.

All in all this film would be highly recommended by myself, especially if you like Pool as there is some good action shots on the table although it looks easier than it probably is especially as it's American pool and the pockets are like buckets.
