Fast Eddie Felson (Paul Newman), once a formidable Pool shark, is now much older and wiser. Having given up Pool many years ago he now sells booze to clubs and bars. On one of his sales trips, he comes across Vince (Tom Cruise), a young and very gifted Pool player with a 'sledge hammer break'. Seeing a lot of himself in Vince, he offers to take him and his girlfriend on the road, learning the trade of a Pool hustler in the Pool halls and bars, with a promise of making some serious money, ending up in a huge legitimate Pool competition. Unfortunately, Vince is a fiery young man, who cannot see the bigger picture, especially when he is told that he must loose before he can win. After a while of being educated and guided by Eddie, he decides he has had enough and will go it on his own. In the meantime Eddie has realised that the game of Pool still runs thick through his veins and decides that he is also going to enter the Pool competition, and ultimately end up playing his prodigy.
The Color of Money is the 1986 sequel to the 1961 film "The Hustler" starring Paul Newman as the young Eddie Felson. Where as in "The Hustler" we get to see Eddie experiencing the good and the bad side of hustling, in The Color of Money, Eddie becomes a teacher who demonstrates everything he has learnt to his young prodigy, but at the same time he rediscovers his love of the game. Although it is not as good as the original, it is still a very enjoyable film which demonstrates the acting ability of Newman and Cruise but also the expert direction of Martin Scorsese.
In the lead role of Fast Eddie Felson is Paul Newman (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid) who although is playing the same character as in the original, he is now 25 years older and much wiser. Newman does a great job of playing the cool mentor who over the years has become a great judge of character and in doing so has learnt how to control people. This is very apparent in the opening few scenes where he pulls Vince's strings to get him to come out on the road. Newman actually won an Oscar for his leading role in this film. The young Vince is played by Tom Cruise (Top Gun), a very flamboyant young man who prances round a Pool table like he's on a dance floor. The contrast between the two main characters is like chalk and cheese, the only thing they have in common is the love of Pool. This provides a good basis for a father and son relationship where Eddie tries to teach Vince, but Vince just argues and doesn't listen to the advice. Vince's girlfriend, Carmen, is played by Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio (The Abyss), who does an adequate job of playing this character. Carmen is the only other person who can manipulate Vince and she is part of the reason why they depart company with Eddie. The supporting cast all do an adequate job but nothing really to shout home about, except for John Turturro (Mr. Deeds) as another Pool player.
The film is directed by Martin Scorsese (Taxi Driver, Raging Ball) and in my opinion it is a different style of film to his usual. What Scorsese achieves in this film is that he captures the mood of Pool from both the main characters perspectives. From the character of Vince, we see the showman who enjoys being the hot shot round the table, who spins his cue round like a baton. Vince knows he's good and can't help but tell you through the way he acts and his general cockiness. Then you have Eddie, the master, who understands the finer points of Pool and hustling and who realises that the game is still in his blood. Some of Scorsese's use of camera angle is brilliant, with the camera following the balls down the table or a dialogue between Eddie and Vince is done with the camera panning between them instead of chopping between angles, truly genius Probably his greatest achievement in the film is that he convinces you that both Cruise and Newman are expert Pool players. The sound track is full of bluesy numbers which help to set the scene in the smokey pool halls.= The Cast =======Paul Newman .... Fast Eddie Felson Tom Cruise .... Vincent Lauria Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio .... Carmen Helen Shaver .... Janelle John Turturro .... Julian Bill Cobbs .... Orvis======= Technical Details =============Certificate: 15 Length: 119 mins======================= The Message & Christian View Point =============================No message just an interesting insight into the world of a pool shark.========== Conclusion & Rating ================Although this is by no means as good as "The Hustler", it is still a very enjoyable trip into the world of the pool shark. Newman and Cruise put in very convincing performances as pool players at different ends of the scale. The film moves at a good pace and has some excellent footage of the games, where it is let down is that it is slightly predictable. Fans of Newman and Cruise will almost certainly enjoy this along with fans of sports dramas. Otherwise I would suggest you give this a miss. The Color of Money is available on Amazon for £4.97 which is a good price for this film.
Advantages: Great Movie Disadvantages: Nothing in the way of extras
If you read the synopsis that accompanies the product listing for this DVD, you won't need me to tell you that the movie is about professional pool players in the USA. A breed we here in the UK know little about.
Although this film is obviously an early vehicle for the blossoming acting skills of a talented young actor called Tom Cruise, the central storyline relies heavily on the viewer having seen his co-star Paul Newman's B&W classic "The Hustler". ... ...you who have never seen The Hustler, may I recommend it to you as as fine an example of tour de force acting as you will ever come across. In it Newman is the rookie pool player, and actor, who in both guises finds himself out of his league, but with so much raw talent that he almost beats everyone, including then superstar George C. Scott, at their own game. He's the archetypal 'Angry Young Man' whose naive arrogance gives him on the one hand the ...

Advantages: Fantastically acted, great style and charisma about the film Disadvantages: None of note
...'The Hustler originally released in the early sixties then this basically is a continuation from that, for those of you that havent it is as the film title would suggest about a Fast but brilliant pool hustler that goes round making money etc by hustling rich folk and winning competitions.
The main character in the original Hustler movie Fast Eddie Felzon is now a middle aged man who has pretty much finished in the world of pool but he one day comes ... ...at a younger age. The problem is the young kid has no control, he makes it very obvious when he is hustling and doesn;t know how to allow a few games to be lost before winning for the bigger stake, He just keeps winning as he hates losing.
The young kid who is in this film played by a very young Tom Cruise is late teens early 20's sort of age and Fast Eddie (Paul Newman) decides to get him onside and teach him how to hustle like a pro.

Advantages: leads straight on from where the last finished. No missed bits !! Disadvantages: due to the low-budget, and date of this film, picture isnt as good
..., and not forgetting Myers favourite bread knife. This movie is not short on action, suspense, and gore.
As you know I never like giving to much away, so if you haven't watch Halloween 2. Its got to be dotted down on your "things to do list" !!
So does Michael finally get what he wanted? Do we see Dr Loomis come back, to help and save the day? Does Laurie even stand a chance this time round? Watch and see?
A pure horror classic, a must for all horror fans
Halloween 2 sadly doesn't come with any DVD special features, though this DVD is still great value for money.
Certificate 18, 4:3, Region 2, Pal, Running time of 115minutes, and its in colour duh!
Standard DVD box, only 1 DVD an all black disc with Halloween 2 written in silver and Michael holding a knife above the DVD. (Looks neat really)

...the storylines about, its one to watch and enjoy yourself, with a recommendation.
The dvd itself is an excellent price, good value for money, you may find cheaper other places depending where you go. I personally loved the colour of the cover, it stands out in my dvd shelf. Depending which dvd, you will get some extra credits about the cast and the making, a friend bought one which doesnt have these on. So check which version you do buy.
The quality of the actual dvd i cannot fault. Like some made here, they can turn out just like videos sometimes, not sure why. But this is top quality, and long lasting .
The movie is great for all the family to enjoy, even you men....

DVD Description
Martin Scorsese's THE COLOR OF MONEY picks up where Robert Rossen's 1961 film THE HUSTLER left off. Fast Eddie Felson (Paul Newman), now middle-aged, finds the image of his youthful self in a pool hustler named Vincent Lauria (Tom Cruise). Trying to relive his past days of glory through the cocky but inexperienced youngster, Fast Eddie takes on the role of Vincent's manager and mentor. But Fast Eddie didn't count on having to contend with Vincent's smart, sexy, and extremely ambitious girlfriend. The three characters become engaged in an emotionally complicated power struggle as they make their way to Atlantic City, where Vincent plans to compete in his first pool tournament. Scorsese's, as well as Newman's, love for the character of Fast Eddie shines through in every frame of this sequel, something that didn't go unnoticed by the academy (earning Newman the Best Actor Oscar). Playing the young upstart, Cruise steps up to Newman's challenge, delivering an energetic performance that cemented his place at the top of the young Hollywood elite. Robbie Robertson's bluesy score reflects the smoky interiors of the various pool halls that Fast Eddie and Vincent haunt, adding another layer of moodiness to the already stylish proceedings.
