A childrens movie? Not at all. If we are reduced to re-making classic childrens books into movies because there are no more good original ideas anymore, do not fill it with adult minded humor. This was not an adult story in the first place. I am not a huge fan of Mike Meyers, who played the role of The Cat in the Hat, and I am sure Bo Welch (director) could've chosen a better story line and a better actor to play the part. In my opinion, the movie was just Mike Meyers. He didn't portray Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat, he acted as himself in a costume. An actor that cannot break free of any character type he has played before, because this is all of the substance as an actor that he has. It was great in "Saturday Night Live" but it gets a bit stale after a few years. As for the movie, I can hardly believe a parent would enjoy sitting through a movie with their child having to hear sexual undertones and absurdities from a sex crazed cat. Not only can I not see a parent enjoying it, but I think most parents do not appreciate these things in a "children's" movie. Adults have their own movies and websites and we certainly know where to find them. We do not need to be force fed this stuff during a family film nor do our children. As for the other cast, Kelly Preston (the mom), Alec Baldwin (the NEIGHBOUR) could we look at the line up of headlining actors and figure out that this was going to be a horrible film? With the exception of Dakota Fanning (Sally) who has always given a good performance, and I'm sorry, I don't know who Spencer Breslin so I wont say anything about him. The only thing that was believable was the set. It did look like it came out of some weird childrens book. This was a 1 hour and 22 minute movie that I wish I hadn't spent the actual 30 mins that I did watch. I should've washed the dishes, I would've gotten more joy from that. Anyone thinking of watching this film? DON'T. Save your money, save your time and you will save yourself from the headache of watching it.

I have to disagree with you. My kids love this. I think Mike Myers is very good and does it well. Anyway, each to his/her own. Nice rant though!

alec balbwin was the next door neighbour not the dad, It was on tv at christmas, and we must have watched a different film to you or maybe any adult humour went over the heads of our children, which is what is supposed to happen, that is why it is called a family film, so everyone enjoys it.
