Advantages: An engrossing little story Disadvantages: None
...Jack London's The call of the Wild, first published in 1903, is the story of Buck, a courageous dog fighting for survival in the Alaskan wilderness. It is widely considered to be his masterpiece.
The book vividly describes the harsh realities of life, for men as well as dogs, in the gold rush of the Far North.
**WARNING** The following section details the plot (That's why it's subtitled THE PLOT, funnily enough). So, if you like, skip to the next section.
THE PLOT
The story is set during the Klondike gold rush of 1897. Large and strong dogs are in big demand to pull the sleds between Skagway and Dawson, a long and dangerous trip through savage and treacherous terrain in bitterly cold weather. Buck, a 140-pound cross between a St. Bernard and a Scottish sheep dog, unfortunately fits the bill perfectly. At the start...

Advantages: A generally nice animated film Disadvantages: Lacks orignality, and it's no Monsters Inc!
...We were meant to be going to a party last night, but unfortunately it was cancelled. Hubby and I went onto plan B - DVDs, pizza and a bottle of vodka and diet coke! We went to Blockbusters and bought DVDs from the 3 for £20 range of ex-rentals (therefore costing £6.66 per DVD). We bought 3 each, and one of my 3 was "The Wild" - Disney's 46th Animated Classic (according to the DVD box). In general hubby and I love animated films - I had heard some not so good comments about this film, but I was prepared to give it the benefit of the doubt.
Background
If you've seen the film "Madagascar", you will immediately notice similarities?..animals in Central Park Zoo in New York?escape to experience being in the wild. However, the story is a little bit different, and I certainly think it's worth seeing "The Wild" even if...

Advantages: This film has some really funny and clever comebacks and the actors are quite ood Disadvantages: This film is quite cheesy in parts
...I think that this film 'wild child' is a great watch for teenage girls.
The film is about poppy, a spoilt, rich teenager from LA who, after her mother died has become fairly distant with her dad. Rather than giving her time and attention he just gives her clothes and gadgets and money. But one day, one prank to far she is sent off to an all girls boarding school in england! where she is forced to give up her mobile and wear a hidious uniform. Her father hopes that this will finally straighten her out.
From the day she arrives is certain she wil be gone soon but starts to make friends and realises that 'her ticket out of here might just be the reason she wants to stay'.
I really enjoyed this film and have reapetedly watched it over and over again without getting sick and tired of it....
