Gregory Peck heads a star-studded cast charged with a near impossible mission: to destroy a pair of German guns nestled in a protective cave on the strategic Mediterranean island of Navarone, from where they can control a vital sea passage. As world famous mountain climber turned British army Captain Mallory, Peck leads a guerrilla force composed of the humanistic explosives expert, Miller (David Niven), the ruthless Greek patriot with a grudge, Stavros (Anthony Quinn), veteran special forces soldier Brown (Stanley Baker) and the cool, quiet young marksman Pappadimos (James Darren). This disparate collection of classic types must overcome internal conflicts, enemy attacks, betrayal and capture to complete their mission. Director J. Advantages: A must see for all lovers of long historical epics. Disadvantages: Could have shown more detail in the battle scenes.
This is an impressive looking production with sumptuous costumes and sets and a rousing score from Vangelis. The Director's Cut includes extra footage, as is to be expected.
Oliver Stone chose a largely European cast for the film, with Colin Farrell as Alexander and Anthony Hopkins as Ptolemy. In this film there are several Irish actors, including Farrell, so the main accent is of course Irish, which makes a change from the (by now) traditional British accents in film epics.
It would be refreshing if a director had his historical cast adopt an accent authentic to the time and place i.e. in this case Macedonian or Greek. Val Kilmer, who plays Philip, Alexander's father, does change his, but to an Irish one like Farrell. Angelina Jolie, who plays Alexander's manipulative mother, is the only one who attempts a Mediterranean delivery ...
Advantages: none Disadvantages: loads of scenes and music scores have been cut out
this is the only fools and horses complete collection boxset but in my eyes it isnt because loads of scenes have been cut and musical scores changed or cut out and laughter tracks added onto episodes that didnt originally have a laughter track. so its not really the complete collection is it with all these things changed and added the episode a royal flush is the one that been edited the most loads of scenes have been cut and a laughter track added wich spoils the episode completely. i would strongly recommend anyone that want to see all the episodes in all their glory is to tape them off uk gold its better than this so called complete collection that the bbc have released im still waiting for the genuine complete collection. ...

DVD that comes in a limited edition folding pyramid box, which can get annoying but admittedly does look cool.
Being a special edition the movie is the Director’s cut containing over thirty minuets of unseen footage. (Total running time 124 min)
The special features aren’t anything to shout about you get the obligatory Trailer and subtitles, the promo reel is basically a best bits of the movie backed with classical music. The audio commentary is by Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin, which give you an insightful look at how the movie was made.
The picture quality is anything you would expect from a DVD but what is cool is that you get a choice of 5.1 and DTS, which sound amazing.
If you are more bothered about special features then this may not be for you but if like me you see them as a bonus on top of a great film ...
