******************************************************************
In 1980, the world was introduced to a new superspy known only as Jason Bourne in “The Bourne Identity.” This crackling novel by Robert Ludlum about a man with amnesia but is now a target by several assassins became a runaway bestseller, and even spawned two follow-up books. I have read the book several times myself, and I always find it a fascinating read; from the first page, ... ...He was fished out of the Mediterranean Sea, his body is scarred with bulled wounds and a frame of microfilm is found in his hip which has a number and the name of Swiss bank. Over time, he realizes that he can speak a variety of languages and has exceptional fighting skills---whoever trained him, obviously trained him well. When he arrives at the bank, he finds a safe deposit box filled with currency, passports and other articles; after he unexpectedly ...

...and another film review, over the weekend I had been incredibly bored so instead of doing the usual sit at the computer all day I actually decided to watch a couple of films. Of course yesterdays op was Welcome To Collinwood, today’s is going to be a film that I’ve been a big fan of since it’s release in the cinema. Adapted from a Robert Ludlum novel The Bourne Identity hit our screens in 2002, as an adaptation of this book, which ... ...body (Matt Damon) floating in the Sea just off the coast France, and upon pulling the body aboard find out the man is still alive. Advantages: Diverting thrills Disadvantages: Predictable and at times ridiculous
Ah, the spy. Bane of all European would-be dictators and cat stroking baldies the world over, they slip in and out of rooms (and women) undetected, with nary a scratch on their pristine hides or a ruffle in their slicked-back hair. “I expect you to perish!” scream the enemies whilst women cream their gusset after seeing men being beaten to death. You gotta love spy movies, because they lend ordinary folks the demeanour of super-heroes ... ...sip an ice-cold tuxedo for the latest espionage thriller - The Bourne Identity.
***THE PLOT***
A man’s body floats in the sea. Fishing boat finds man and reels him in. The ship’s doctor finds two bullets in his back and a device in his hip that projects the address of a Swiss bank account number. But the man is not dead as the crew assumed (do doctors not think to check people’s pulses?), in fact he’s angry as hell because ...

When the crew of a trawler spot a distress beacon floating in the water off the coast of France, they are shocked to find that the beacon is attached to the body of a young man. Unconscious, and injured from extensive bullet wounds, the man’s body yields no clues as to his identity. When he awakes, he is suffering from amnesia, but the crew tend to his wounds, and offer him passage to shore. The only clue to his identity lies in a computer chip, ... ...account. Arriving on the French mainland, the man tracks down the location of the bank and arranges to inspect the contents of his safety deposit box. Beneath a layer of cash and valuables, he finds a gun, a wristwatch and numerous foreign passports, all of which contain his picture, but with different names. Understandably puzzled, he decides to make his way to the US embassy to obtain help. But his movements have not gone unnoticed and he soon ...

Advantages: Great storyline, good acting, good directing. Disadvantages: None
The Bourne Identity is a film from the first of three books written by Robert Ludlum about CIA agent Jason Bourne. Ludlum, who has written nearly two dozen best sellers, was also the Executive Producer for the film. The film is directed by Doug Liman who has Swingers and Go under his belt. He has certainly had long term experience in filming as he started making short films at the tender age of seven and on into junior high school!
The general plot ... ...of the plot without ruining the whole movie for you. The simple plot does not make the movie boring though. Quite the contrary. There are lots of things going on in the movie, some of which still intrigue and if I'm honest, puzzle me a bit. Days after watching this film I am still piecing little bits together. Leaving me in no doubt that I would really like to see it again. Although I may have to wait until the video release.
So on with the plot...

DVD Description
As THE BOURNE IDENTITY begins, a man who may or may not be Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) is found floating in the Mediterranean Sea and is hauled onto a fishing boat. When the ship's doctor examines the unconscious castaway, he discovers two bullet wounds and an implanted device that displays a Swiss bank account number. With nothing but this code, the amnesiac Bourne travels to Zurich and gains access to a safe-deposit box containing a gun, thousands of dollars in various currencies, and valid passports from numerous countries--each listing a different identity. Within minutes, Bourne is on the run from a seemingly ever-present agency, relying on language and fighting skills he didn't even know he possessed. Offering $20,000 for a ride to Paris, Bourne gains the reluctant help of the nomadic Marie (Franka Potente). Meanwhile, the shadowy organization, headed by a tough-talking bureaucrat (Chris Cooper), sends numerous assassins (including the Professor, played by Clive Owen) after Bourne and Marie. As their situation grows more perilous, the two strangers struggle to find out who Bourne really is and why they are being hunted. Doug Liman's adaptation of Robert Ludlum's best-selling novel is a remarkable exercise in straightforward storytelling, with the director wisely choosing to focus on Bourne and his quest for identity. The fight sequences are thrilling, but never overly glamorized, and the film's pacing is engaging and deliberate. Damon, who displays genuine bewilderment as his character discovers his almost-superhuman abilities, anchors the proceedings with the subtle charm of an unlikely action hero. Potente also shines as Bourne's road companion, a savvy woman who slowly builds an utterly believable relationship with the confused man. Bearing distinct affinity for its European setting and classic Hollywood suspense films, THE BOURNE IDENTITY succeeds as an unusually smart character-driven thriller.
