This opinion reveals everything about the movie's plot
Well it was about time someone made a 1st person horror/documentary right? Now all my friends were telling me about this movie. They all also had different opinions about it as well. Some told me this movie was really cool others said it blew monkey ass. So the only way to figure out this complex mystery is to see this movie by myself. The only problem was I kept holding it off. It was on the theaters and I missed it. It came out on video and I never bothered to rent it. So finally I caught it on Showtime after a long hard road. There was also this extra feature Showtime decided to throw in there to further explain this mystery. So I gave it a shot.
This movie started off with a lot of promise. The kids went out to do their research on the Blair
Witch. They interviewed people from the town you found out information that will help you comprehend the mystery. Like the fact that some serial killer had murdered 7 kids in the haunted woods. The funny thing was that 8 kids were kidnapped and 7 were killed. Now before you start to wonder if the 8th kid is the killer don’t worry he’s not. It will be explained later when I will get to that documentary that was played after the Blair Witch Project was finished. So there they are finding out information on the mystery talking to the old people who remember the good ol’ days. After they gather the information they are off to the woods.
The thing I liked was that the kids were using two different cameras. One was to record the documentary, which was a convienant black and white film. The second one would record the kids and the behind the scene footage. So there they were running about the woods going to their already planned out destinations. So they film their first few locations. Then like any good ol’ horror movie something goes wrong. They get lost in the woods and they start panicking. They start to take it out on each other. That’s when the writers show their first flaw. Now there are two guys: Josh and Mike and 1 girl. For no apparent reason Mike throws the map into a creek. That was pretty stupid and the excuse that the writers gave us was that Mike thought they didn’t need it any more, they were all ready screwed. Uh huh.... And the reason why that’s a reason to throw away a map is...?
They scream at each other for a while. Some crazy stuff happens and one of the guys disappears. Now we would suspect that Mike would’ve ran away in a crazy confusion, right? But nope it’s Josh. So they go out to look for him and what happens they find his shirt and inside... ewww a pile of guts. That’s got to smell. So after that they begin to hear someone scream. Now you saw the boy’s guts why would you go out to look for him? I don’t know but there they go running into the house where the 7 kids were murdered. There are some bright folk’ ladies and gents. So there they are in that spooky house. And what happens Mike just runs around looking for Josh while the slower and scared Heather slowly follows along. So Mike is at the basement looking around and WACK camera goes on the ground. When Heather follows she sees Mike in facing the wall and then WACK down she goes again.
Now what’s wrong with this movie is it leaves way too much left out at the end. If there was some thing I missed during the movie then please tell me. The killer was unknown and the kids’ bodies where also unfound. What’s up? Now the documentary at the end just clears up the past but still leaves the ending unresolved. The documentary says that the original killer wasn’t the horrible monster he was made out to be. The 8th child that escaped from his clutches turns out to be a psychotic. So they begin to investigate on whether the man killed all those children or was the survivor putting all those ideas into his head. Even so what those that do to help us comprehend the ending. I have my ideas but I can’t possibly know if they are correct. I hope the sequel clears up these questions.

Excellent op, though I like way they left the ending open-ended so it played on your imagination. Or at least it did until I saw the sequel, which confused me more and is possibly the worst film I have ever seen. You seen it? Shocking!

Great op! I agree completely! This film had so much hype surrounding it, everyone falling over themselves to say how amazing it was and how scared they were by it...and then when I saw it I just thought, what a load of crap! I am the most easily scared person I know, and this film didn't scare me in the slightest, so I think that's saying something. Also it made no sense whatsoever, and the ending was useless, leaving so many questions unanswered (although as someone mentioned below, the guy standing in the corner was a little bit chilling). When I saw the film and didn't like it I thought I was going mad, because everyone else liked it so much - so I was greatly heartened to see your op, thanks!

I like your warning at the start - too often I've read a review about a film I was thinking of watching to find out too late that they've just told me the entire plot. If you liked this film go and see The Hole - out at the cinemas now - it's in the same vein but leaves far less unresolved. Vicky
