The Exorcist DVD sits on my shelf, i watch it only during daylight hours and only then if it is really sunny and i expect to see friends later, hopefully not having time to dwell too much on what i have watched... to hear that the Blair Witch Project was the scariest film ever, well that was a pretty substantial claim that needed looking into. I came to the film long, long after all the hype had died down, and unusually for me watched it with a pretty open mind.
I resent the fact that i will never get those 70 or so minutes of my life back, what a poor piece of film this is. I was irritated within 5 minutes of it having started, to alienate your audience by having such annoyingly stupid characters is rather foolish if you ask me. I was rooting for the evil presence to despatch these idiots the minute they set foot in the woods.
The 'cinema verite' shooting soon became annoying as the hand held camerawork reminded me more and more of some distant relatives day out at Blackpool. The acting was fine, shame they were such awful characters...they seemed to crack under absolutely no pressure, solved every dilemma by arguing and sulking...and why oh why didn't they follow the river? The only genuine scare for me came at the end with the slightly unnerving vision of the chap stood in the corner, but otherwise i was cheering as they each got clonked on the head.
The slim plotline was...well....slim, and only marginally more fleshed out (pardon the pun) than some mid '80's slasher pic, Scooby-Doo was beginning to look like Richard III in comparison.
I wasn't sure whether i was disappointed by the film, or just hated it...i made up my mind tho as i neglected to watch much more than 2 minutes of the laughable mockumentary on the dvd...I hated it. It was just lowest common denominator horror movie making, and it irritated the living daylights out of me as i struggled to understand the plaudits it had received.
Student film or not, i'm sure that there are far worthier low budget/indie films out there.
The dvd itself was very well done, nice layouts and menus, easy to navigate, but i had absolutely no inclination to investigate beyond the menus.

Give away a substantial scare why don't you - muppet! Although its still an entertaining review and one I thoroughly agree with. It felt like something I could have done for A-level Theatre Studies, but with annoying American's in it. OK, they would have been annoying if they weren't Americans, but there seemed to be that edge that I've only see in amateur dramatics I've seen in the States...

Hated this movie so much - glad others felt the same! It was far too hyped up and far too crap to be even called a dvd - 70 mins of utter erm, rubbish! xx
