Harper (Taye Diggs) is a young writer with some successes under his belt. He has a novel out which is set to become a big hit. But it seems that the novel is more than just a case of life imitating art, as it captures Harper’s own personal life and the lives of those around him with too much accuracy for coincidence.
When they read extracts from the book, his friends and girlfriend are worried about their portrayal in the novel and accusations of exploitation, exaggerating and muck-raking abound Ñ not to mention his over-friendly relationship with his best friend’s bride to be.
All this literary controversy guarantees that Harper’s role as the best man at his best friend’s wedding won’t be smooth sailing, to say the least.
The Best Man has a great cast of actors who feed wonderfully off each other’s energy. Especially worthy of a mention are Morris Chestnut as the paranoid and possessive Lance and Terrence Howard as the attractive womaniser Quentin.
It helps that they are all working from a genuinely witty and intelligent script which straddles the difficult balance of comedy and drama to astonishing effect.
The only thing that really lets it down is the look of the film.
It come across like a TV movie - made up from very flat camera angles which, at times, detract from the brilliance of the acting and script.
Much like The Wood, The Best Man is an excellently played story of twenty somethings growing up and realising that thirty is just around the corner.
That’s enough to make any young person feel the twitch and anxiety of achieving goals and having the focus and determination to succeed. The Best Man portrays this with rare honesty and doses of good humour.
Advantages: Great comedy romance chick flick Disadvantages: not one for the guys - too girly
Well its all about olly (Stuart Townsend)- a struggling writer who is asked to be bestman at a wedding of his old college friend.
He falls in love with the bride to be (Amy Smart) before he realises who she is. Olly's current best friend (Seth Green)- who despises the groom to be, decides to try to mess up the relationship and the wedding to help olly get the girl.
Stuart Townsend plays a brilliant part as olly and is very cute and loveable.
The movie is your typical chick flick romance - with plenty of comedy moments from seth green. It doesnt really compare to the likes of serendipity or bridget jones but is a very watchable film. Especially if you are home alone for the night with a takeaway pizza and a bottle of wine.
ITs not really the kind of chick flick that the bloke in your life will enjoy - so watch it alone. ...
Advantages: Easy to use menu and fantastic layout Disadvantages: Not enough interviews
Fantastic review of the 2004/2005 Season on DVD. The season where Arsenal won the FA Cup against Man Utd, and went 49 Games unbeaten.
One of the best football related DVD's I have watched, the menus are easy to navigate and the quality and choice of the clips from matches selected is outstanding! There are a number of interviews with current players, past players, the manager, and backroom staff.
The DVD gives you an insight into just how much work went into this amazing season, both on the pitch and behind the sceens. This DVD can be watched be anyone, of all ages, even if you are not technolocally minded, it is that simple to use!!
Would definatly recommend to any Arsenal fan or football fans alike! ...
, cluttering up the kitchen but the man is comic genius, and Animals is one of his best shows.
I saw the show live, and the DVD has been watched numerous times. It is still hard not to raise a smile when Ricky explains to the audience about this new theory that contradicts Darwin's version of events that he 'found in a dusty old book in the library'... 'It's called the bible.. '.. 'And it's called The Gospel - so it must be true - clue's in the name!'
The show goes on, covering everything from Sharks and Nazis - "sharks good, nazis less so.." to homosexuality in the jungle and of course the tale of Adam and Eve and how the poor snake was forced to crawl on his belly for the rest of his days - "not the worst possible punishment for a snake.." A fabulous DVD and a wonderful show. Check out the 'extras' on the DVD if you are still unconvinced ...
