...This is one of my favourite films ever. Barbara Stanwyck and Charles Coburn are a couple of card sharks who travel the ships around America fleecing other passengers. Rich kid Henry Fonda returning from a year in the Amazon studying snakes should be an easy target but Stanwyck falls in love with him instead. She then has to outplay her own father (Coburn) to stop him taking Fonda's money. It ends badly though when Fonda discovers their real indentities and decides she's been playing him for a fool the whole time. Heartbroken, Stanwyck decides to get her own back on him - enter The Lady Eve... This romantic comedy has everything - false identities, fake twins, snakes and Henry Fonda performing a number of hilarious pratfalls. Barbara Stanwyck plays another streetwise girl in this movie and her method of capturing Fonda's attention... Read review

...THE LADY EVE..is about a lady cardsharp and her father who are outsmarted on a transatlantic liner by a millionair simpleton,she plans an elaborate revenge. Hetic romantic farce, really a great film scintilating entertainment,from a play by MONCKTON HOFFE...directed by PRESTON STURGES it stars..BARBARA STANWYCK..HENRY FONDA..WILLIAM DEMAREST. BARBARA STANWYCK and her father cheat HENRY FONDA (the millionair) out of a lot of money,he is a complete innocent,but thats not all she falls in love with him,they marry and he finds out that she is a card sharp,they divorce,but are both still in love. So barbara or EVE accidentally on purpose...meets him all over again but this time pretends to be barbaras cousin THE LASY EVE. Thats when the fun begins..made in 1941 in black and white it is still a great film to-day highly recomended.... Read review

Advantages: lovely mini-series to watch

...Colleen McCullough wrote The Thorn Birds in 1977. The story of illicit love between a priest and a young girl, set in Australia, starting in 1920 and spanning the next 60 years in Rome and Australia. The Thorn Birds was turned into a mini-series in 1983, starring Rachel Ward and Richard Chamberlain in the starring roles. I remember watching this, I would have been 11 at the time and I have also read the book several times. My husband gave me the DVD for Christmas, so here is a little review on The Thorn Birds.
