insight into human nature and the complexity and integrity of his characters, confirming him as the greatest ever playwright. These BBC adaptations, renowned for their loyalty to the text, utilise the best theatrical and television talent to bring the full glory of his plays to the small screen. In 1978, the BBC set itself the task of filming all of William Shakespeare's plays for television. The series - beginning with Romeo and Juliet and concluding, nearly seven years later, with Titus Andronicus - featured adaptations of all 36 First Folio plays, plus Pericles, Prince of Tyre.Ranging from traditional interpretations to adventurous, stylised approaches - and featuring such great actors as John Gielgud, Jane Lapotaire, Claire Bloom, Derek Jacobi, Anthony Hopkins, Prunella Scales, Patrick Stewart, Helen Mirren and John Cleese - the resulting productions form a magnificent and unique collection of the Shakespeare canon. The Shakespeare Collection:All's Well That Ends WellAntony And CleopatraAs You Like ItThe Comedy Of ErrorsCoriolanusCymbelineHamletHenry IV Part OneHenry IV Part TwoHenry VHenry VI Part OneHenry VI Part TwoHenry VI Part ThreeHenry VIIIJulius CaesarKing LearThe Life And Death Of King JohnLove's Labour's LostMacbethMeasure For MeasureThe Merchant Of VeniceThe Merry Wives Of WindsorA Midsummer Night's DreamMuch Ado About NothingOthelloPericles, Prince Of TyreRichard IIRichard IIIRomeo And JulietThe Taming Of The ShrewThe TempestTimon Of AthensTitus AndronicusTroilus And CressidaTwelfth NightThe Two Gentlemen Of VeronaThe Winter's Tale

This is a fantastic box set, almost The Complete Works of Shakespeare in DVD form! The range and sheer volume of plays which is covered in this box set is phenomenal. The quality of the acting is incredible, and the plays, although all in the seemingly confusing Shakespearean language are accessible due to the talent of the actors and their outstanding performances. I cannot claim to have seen every one of the plays in this collection, however the majority, of which I have seen, are well worth a look. Certainly at my school we were shown the BBC versions of whatever play we were studying at the time. Although some, like 'King Lear', have times similar to the sections on the heath which drag, the relationships between the characters and their warped intentions are cleverly but boldly outlined. The viewer is never at a loss as to what is going on, not least because of some clever use of costume, where characters are teemed in matching or complimenting colours in order to show their relationships and their character, good or evil. This would be perfect for someone who is teaching or studying Shakespeare at any level. I agree that it seems a little pricey however, Shakespeare never dates, and the material will be relevant now as well as in 10 years time.
