Synopsis ======
The film is a remake of the original 1979 film of the same name that spawned several sequels. A young mother (Kathy), her three children (Billy, Michael and Chelsea) and their step father (George) move into a large and fairly isolated house in Amityville, Long Island, where a previous family had been murdered by their father. Shortly after they move into the house some very strange things start to happen. The little girl has what appears to be an imaginary friend that gets her into lots of danger. The step father starts to see things more and more as the film progresses and starts abusing the family. As he becomes more possessed all hell breaks loose and it becomes a fight for the family to survive.
Special Features ===========
There are eight deleted scenes that are actually very good, I wonder why some of them were not left in the film. There is a fifteen minute documentary about the real life events of the murders in Amityville, at first I thought it was made up. There is also a making of that interviews most of the actors and some of the key crew and design members, it is a about half an hour long and is very interesting.
Summary ======
On the whole I really enjoyed the film, the acting and special effects are very good. It's a no brainer film really as I expected, so don't go in expecting to be challenged. I found it to be a bit of cross between Poltergeist and The Shining. There are plenty of shocks and quite a lot of, but not too much gore. My biggest criticism of the film is that it is a little short, running at approximately an hour and fifteen minutes, perhaps they should have left some of the deleted scenes in. However, the special features make up a little for the shortness' of the film.
Recommended.
