Review: ...watch the collision of emotions THE AIR I BREATHE provides -- it is enough all by itself to leave you breathless (Box Office Magazine, 17/03/2008)

DVD Description

Solid performances from an all-star cast bring this ensemble drama to life. As parallel stories unfold, the viewer discovers unlikely connections between several seemingly unrelated people. Though the film is divided up into segments entitled 'Happiness', 'Pleasure', 'Sorrow', and 'Love', the mood is melancholy overall. Splattered with violent acts, THE AIR I BREATHE touches on the aforementioned themes and more, pondering the meaning of life and death through characters who live on the edge and risk everything for the thrill of joy, chance, and escape, even if that means death.
The film begins with Forest Whitaker playing a bored and frustrated nine-to-fiver who feels stuck in his routine. After taking a huge risk on a whim and losing it all, the doomed businessman has the unlucky fortune of meeting with Brendan Fraser’s character, a numb hit-man who feels no remorse until crossing paths with a troubled pop star (Sarah Michelle Gellar). At the centre of much of this chaos is Fingers (Andy Garcia), a ruthless villain intent on killing anyone who gets in the way of his success. Though the plot at times feels contrived with all its strategically placed coincidences, writer-director Jieho Lee anchors the film with clever editing and a thoughtful script, which is careful to cover events from multiple points of view. Julie Delpy and Emile Hirsch give dimension to the stories as secondary characters whose actions become central to the plot.

Fantasia - for classical music buffs
Review of Fantasia DVD by d_taylor1

Advantages: originality
Disadvantages: tediousness

...This is not a film! It is instead a variety show of classsical music and animation. Each ten minute or so segment is introduced by a celebrity with the usual 'awards ceremony' attempt at humour. The acual pieces are often very good. If you love classical music, then this will be a breath of fresh air to you. However, most other people will find it rather tedious and boring, I think. Many segments I found enjoyable for a couple of minutes, but after that they became repetitious. Definitely, try before you buy!... Read review

Review of Closer DVD by manhor

Advantages: leaves viewer with an immense feeling of openness
Disadvantages: not for a first date

...I went to see this film as a friend had a 'thing' for Jude Law, I didn't want to see it at all really but I was absolutely blown away by it in the end. I have not seen anything so explicit in a long time at the pictures, amongst all the drivvle it was a breath,if not a deep breath at times,of fresh air. All the characters were likeable even in the cases were they were in the wrong, every angle was covered and was put across as a true human story.Maybe not as close to this, but this could happen to anybody. I would highly recommend it to anyone who fancies something 'a bit serious' and will surely be buying the dvd when available.... Read review

Went to see it again..
Review of The Sixth Sense DVD by nholland

Advantages: well written, kept you capitavited
Disadvantages: none

...This fim was a breath of fresh air after the few movies I saw before this one. The story line was original and well scripted. The acting by all cast members was believable and exciting. Througherly enjoyable fim that I had to go and see it again, looking for all those carefully planted clues to the twist in the ending. Even though this is fictional drama I haven't enjoyed a film like this for a long time, for Bruce Willis an move away from the sterotypical roles her normally plays. Fabulous and enjoyable, would recomend this film to anyone, I feel would be a film that would have something for all ages.... Read review
