...This tv series tryed to tell what many thought of as the original Robin hood story before hollywood got hold of it.Micheal Praed stars as a belivable robin whos up against guy of gisborn and the evil sheriff of nottingham trying to protect his friends and there family from the soilders,this series was beautifully shot and has the most amazing soundtreck to acompany it.The actual episodes are strongly based around the pagan belifs of the time which make it much more belivable and it far outways the recent robin hood series on many levels.The cast where amazing regulars such as ray winstone helped make the series famous while in nearly every episode you will spot a very young familar face in one of there first roles.Although its getting on now this is probably the best attempt at robin hood there has been its realistic beautifully shot... Advantages: Landmark series, just the right mix of action, drama and comedy

...at the beginning of the series. He is a cruel, calculating man with a great love of money, and a great hatred of Robin Hood and all that he stands for. Guy of Gisbourne - Played by Robert Addie Bumbling Guy, is always one step behind Robin, never quite managing to catch him. As the sheriffs right-hand man he has a fair amount of power, but doesn't have the brains to use it. Herne The Hunter - Played by John Abineri Half spirit, half man, Herne is a mysterious creature who inhabits the forest and tries to bring balance to the land through his “son” Robin. He is Robin's guide and mentor through his various adventures. Man in cell (and Arthur) - Played by Stuart Linden I couldn't describe the characters without including the crazy old man in the dungeon and his pet rat “Arthur”. ...Of Sherwood~~ This documentary is spread over the two discs and gives a fascinating insight into the cast members, writers and directors memories of how the season progressed. It's also quite amusing seeing just how old favourites look now. ~~Robin Hood 1-2-3~~ A fascinating short featurette where Mark Ryan demonstrates the swordplay which he used so expertly in his role as Nasir. Just make sure you don't try to copy any of it. ~~Biographies~~ Written biographies of the main cast. A bit boring this one. ~~It's Showtime~~ In this promotional short from 1985, aimed at the American market, OK to watch once, but that's about it. ~~~Picture and Sound Quality~~~ The picture and sound quality is fantastic, especially considering the series is 20 years old.
