Having no money is just annoying, but finding something to do without going out is even more annoying. In the last week I have watched a lot of films. After visiting town to have a look around we came across four DVD’s for £10. We thought this would save us money from going out and keep us occupied. One of the films my boyfriend chose was The 6th day. I wasn’t really keen on watching it to be honest, even tough I remember vaguely watching it before. However, since we had no other films left we put this on the other day. It was another one of Arnie’s films which just didn’t appeal to me. I mean I do like some films with him in but most I find really cheesy and his characters remain quite the same. This film Was released in 2000 so has been out for several years. Director- Roger Spottiswoode I have no idea who this was when I saw the name come up in the title sequence so I was not sure of his reputation. After looking him up Roger is a Canadian director and has been directing since the late eighties. Mainly he has worked on TV programmes but has done a few films which include big stars. Some of these include- ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’ 1997 and ‘Air America’ 1990.
Writers- Cormac Wibberley and Marianne Wibberley Release Date- 15 December 2000 (UK) Runtime- 123 Mins Certificate- 15 Company- Columbia pictures PLOT
Adam Gibson is a family man who has a high respected career as the best pilot around. His life is set in 2015 where many aspects of life are futuristic. This is a very strange time where more inventions are appearing such as cloning pets which Adam disagrees with. One day after returning home everything has changed and Adam finds himself unable to see his family due to a clone taking his place. He has to discover how this has happened and how to get his life back.
CAST
Arnold Schwarzenegger- Adam Gibson
Adam is a hard worker and is very much a family man. He has strong values to keep his wife and daughter happy and loves his job. He is very determined to win back his life and you can tell he will fight for his family. Even though he is physically strong, Adam also shows he is pretty intelligent and can keep his mind on the objective.
Arnold is a mega star in the acting world and has done a vast amount of movies. I do like his acting and think some of his films are pretty good but I do get bored with him as his characters have the same accent and he always has to be this action hero even if he is only suppose to be an average family man. This makes some of his films unrealistic. My favourite film starring Arnie has to be ‘True Lies’ 1994.
Michael Rapaport- Hank Morgan Hank is Adam’s best friend and co pilot. Is also loves his job and wants to be as good as his friend. He lives alone but seems happy with his life.
I recognised Michael straight away and he has been in many god films and TV series such as- TV series, ‘The war at home’ which is very funny, ‘Hitch’ film 2005 and ‘Men of honor’ 2000.
Other characters Tony Goldwyn – Michael Drucker Michael Rooker – Robert Marshall Sarah Wynter – Talia Elsworth Wendy Crewson – Natalie Gibson Taylor Anne Reid – Clara Gibson
The Movie
I had mixed opinions about this film but overall thought it was ok. I did like the start of the film especially the scene where Adam first sees his clone. There were some funny jokes and comments which made me laugh but the some of the action sequences were a bit far fetched. The film had a good flow to it and I never seemed bored with any of the slower scenes. It had a good pace and mixed all different scenes together.
Acting and directing
The acting by most of the cast was done well. They all seemed to fit their roles quite well. I liked some of the cast picked and thought that having Michael has Adam’s best friend was good, as he brought a lot of the comedy to the film. Arnie is first class in his role as always. Even though his voice and image is always the same I think this is properly one of his better films. He shows a great side of being a normal family man which I liked.
Narrative
The story was good and I liked the way that it included many different values. A world of cloning is very unknown and it was good to see how people would react to having their life taken from them. The reactions to this were just as I expected them to be. It was pretty good to have two Arnie’s for the last action part. It gave a variety of opportunities and it did create some good red herrings and twists. With the film being based on this it gave the whole thing a wide open spectrum. There was so much you could do with this kind of story. Some of the aspects of cloning were intriguing. The way they show you how they clone people and how easy death is to beat. It is quite scary when you think that something like this could happen in the not so distant future. Even though some parts of the story can be very predictable it was easy going and some parts still suprised me. even though this was a science fiction based film it had everything else from every genre. The car chases, gun fights, romance, comedy and the family life. It had a good balance of different elements and I liked that it was not just all about science and the future. It is quite a fun film and even though it seems complex it is not overly complicated.
Main Positive points
- Cast - Comedy - Narrative - Different genres included
Negatives
- Action a bit far fetched - Arnie same kind of character as every other film
Overall
The film is not a bad one. It kept me entertained and I was generally pleased with it. Although I did get annoyed with Arnie’s usual character, the story was intriguing and it involved good values. I would say rent this one if not seen, as I wouldn’t buy it unless you can find it for less than a fiver.
EXTRAS
The sound on this film was really good using our surrond sound. The helicopter's were really good and the sound was so sharp and intense, you need this film up high to appreciated the effects.
Advantages: Humourous and full of action Disadvantages: End of film gets drawn out a little too much
...here is my second on the excellent Arnie film “The 6th Day”. I have been criticised in recent reviews for giving only information on the product, and not my personal opinion, I apologise for this and hope that this one is better for you! And thanks to those who have given me the advice!
Arnold Schwartzenegger (please excuse spelling, ill call him Arnie from now on!), stars in the film “The 6th Day” as a family man, living ... ...get his life back on the right track!
“The 6th Day” gets its name from Genesis in the Bible, chapter 1.31, where it clearly states that on the 6th day, God created man. Therefore the fact that within the film, people are actually being made, the title suits the film to perfection!
The film also has other stars, such as Robert Duvall, from Gone in 60 seconds among others, including the same director as the James Bond film, Tomorrow Never ...

...latest kill-fest is set in the not so distant future (2015 to be exact) where cloning has become more a reality than it is today. It sees Arnie as Adam Gibson, a decorated fighter pilot now running his own business doing ‘extreme sports’ joy flights for those that can afford them. Adam Gibson is the traditional family man who arrives home after a hard day at work on his birthday to see that….. he is already home, at least somebody ... ...launches the entire, slightly flimsy, story line that sees Arnie involved in laser gun shoot outs, helicopter flying antics, tonnes of stunts and general rough housing!! I usually don’t give away much of the story in my reviews so if you want to know what happens, read someone else’s.
The movie is the usual Arnie haul, slightly longer (118mins) but with a better plot than is usual for him. Think Total Recall on steroids and you are in ...

...love it! You could imagine the thrill, when I finally got a DVD-player! The first movie I bought was " The 6th day"! Quiet evening, some fruits and comfy sofa - all in the right places and the movie starts. This is the point where all the fun stops!
You probably read previous reviews avout this DVD. I would not argue with them! Lots of special effects, additional stuff on the disk, cristall quality - everything is true! Then comes a disapointment. ... ...and a Hero having the last laugh at the end. I have seen it a lot of times! Clichees everywhere. Where have I seen the clones? "Judge Dredd", and they all can be produced in a day. Do the scriptwriters actually consult the scientists? I do not think so. For them all scientists are as in Hollywood movies - either mad or mad and dangerous. Most go for the second kind as more filmable. No suprise for this one!
Special effects. These days you can generate ...

DVD Description
In the not-too-distant future, when pets can be cloned after they die and 'virtual girlfriends' can be installed and programmed, Adam Gibson (Arnold Schwarzenegger) works as a helicopter tour pilot. On his birthday he comes home to discover an identical version of himself--an illegal human clone--celebrating with his family and friends. The next thing he knows, a squad of killers is after him in order to hide the evidence of their cloning activities, funded by Michael Drucker (Tony Goldwyn), a powerful businessman who hopes to make billions from human cloning in collaboration with his medical expert, Dr. Griffin Weir (Robert Duvall). Of course, nobody believes Adam when he says there's an impostor living his life, and soon he has to take matters into his own hands while being chased by bad guys who won't stay dead thanks to the magic of cloning and Syncordings, instant memory downloads. THE 6TH DAY is an intriguing sci-fi thriller, combining science fact and fiction with everything viewers could want from a Schwarzenegger movie: terrific special effects and an action-packed story, with two Arnolds for twice the fun.
