shoes, drainpipe trousers, sideburns and greased back hair. David Essex makes his screen debut as wayward hero Jim MacLaine, who lives a life of dead-end jobs and one-night-stands and dreams of becoming a rock star. Ringo Starr, as his fairground buddy, epitomizes the period and is joined by Billy Fury and Keith Moon in a living tapestry of memories for rock fans.Stardust sees hero Jim (Essex) now enjoying the nomadic 'gigs and groupies' life of The Stray Cats (with band mates Paul Nicholas, Keith Moon, Dave Edmunds and Karl Howman). When he achieves all his wildest dreams of international stardom, the sweet taste of success begins to turn sour, reflecting the tragic days when the pressures proved too great for many talented musicians of the 1960s. Directed by Michael Apted (The World is Not Enough), the film won the Writer's Guild Award for Best British Original Screenplay. Adam Faith co-stars as the Stray Cats' manager.

Advantages: Very atmospheric, highly watchable, excellent acting Disadvantages: Stardust being the follow-on to That'll Be The Day
, and the second is that viewing it dispassionately, it is just a damned good all-round piece of entertainment that hasn't got one single boring moment in it, from start to finish.
If you want to know what the 1950s felt like, watch "That'llBe The Day".
Now...as I close, I have to put a slight downer on what is an otherwise perfect film. In 1975, a follow-up to "That'llBe The Day" was made....this was "Stardust". Recently the two films have been put together on DVD, and you can buy them in any music shop or from various movie DVD outlets on the internet. Even though "Stardust" was a deliberate follow-up to "That'llBe The Day" and took Jim MacLaine (still played by DavidEssex) onto the next phase of his life, it is my opinion that it ("Stardust") is one of the very worst films ever made and is only fit for industrial land-fill. The acting ...
Advantages: Includes his top selling hits. Disadvantages: They are the only good ones.
kick to them. Turn Me Loose is in fact nothing like any of the others and has more of an Elvis style to it. The last of those has some short attempts at heavy rock but again only in the chorus.
The last track *Stardust* is much better known, and comes from the film of the same name thatDavid starred in and was a sequel to that'llbe the day. Another hit in the top 10, but sadly not for me.
*~*~* My Verdict*~*~*
This compilation just doesn't do it for me. It has a great start but then it all goes downhill. I prefer much faster rhythmic songs and this just doesn't seem to do it. I know David has produced some much better songs, so feel that they should really be on this Cd. I know there have been other Cds produced featuring the best of so if you are a real fan these may be better to go for.
Of course this is just my thoughts ...
Advantages: Great cast, exciting storyline Disadvantages: None
I originally became interested in seeing Stardust when I saw an advert in the cinema but didn't actually see it till it was on DVD. When in Asda one night we saw this DVD and thought we would give it a go.
Stardust is a fairytale but not just a normal boring one, it has many exciting twists and turns. The story begins as a young boy attempts to cross over the wall next to the village he lived in also called Wall. The guard of the wall attempts to stop him but he manages to get over and end up in a different world. He goes in to the market and ends up getting into mischief with a beautiful slave. 9 months later a small parcel appears on his doorstep, his son Tristan.
The story then moves on to when Tristan himself is a young man. He works in a shop and is in love with the beautiful Victoria. He tries to woo her and ends up ...
