I watched this film after reading extremely positive reviews in the press and on IMDb, and I am so glad that I did!
The film follows Nick Naylor (An outstanding Aaron Eckhart), a charming, intelligent lobbyist oozing self-confidence, employed by the tobacco companies. We are given an insight into his work, and a glimpse into his family life, particularly his relationship with his son. Aaron Eckhart is simply fantastic in this role and holds your attention thanks to a very clever, tongue-in-cheek script.
A minor appearance by Rob Lowe (fans of the West Wing won't want to miss this!) is one of the highlights of this movie, showing the interaction between the tobacco companies and Hollywood.
The film is intended neither as an anti-smoking message, nor as support for the tobacco industry. It is merely a very entertaining and satirical look at the job of lobbyists, with one of the wittiest scripts of the year. It is a shame that this film has gone by largely unnoticed, as it is a rare thing for a film to be laugh-out-loud funny, yet make you seriously think about things at the same time. An excellent film, that is available at a very cheap price now, and should be a part of anyone's DVD collection!
