POSSIBLE SPOILER,IM JUST CRAP AT REVIEWING FILMS, SORRY!
T3 is purely and simply an action movie, well i'm afraid that i'd have to argue with anyone who quoted that, appreciating that this is a trilogy movie and many people have waited with eager anticipation to discover what happens to john connor next, i can only say i was sorely disappointed in what T3 presented! yes it was dripping with special effects and stunning action sequences, you can see where the money clearly went on this film, but films cant purely be based on these alone. The movie is quite short, (i estimate 90 to 120 minutes) and offers no real conclusion to the story we have all been following in the past 2 movies, just as i felt things were really beginning to hot up, the film ended, i felt rather cheated!
Basically, Arnold Schwarzenneger returns as The terminator in order to once again help save John Connor from termination, which is to be carried out this time by T-X, a brand spanking new cyborg sent through time from the future to eliminate him, and a few other little friends this time, in order to help them take over the world
when judgement day finally happens and skynet aims to dominate the world. John Connor is older but not really any wiser, he feels deep down that the prophecy that judgment day will be no more is all a farce, and spends most of his time driving really fast on his motorbike! But it turns out that there was really no stopping judgement day, the machines really will rise and take over the world, and John connor just needs to make sure he's still alive when it happens so he can kick some robot ass! paper thin or what!
This time teamed up with Kate Brewster and a wrinkly terminator, they spend lots of time avoiding flying trucks and trecking around in a winnabego! (the budget really couldn't stretch that far). They decide to head out to take refuge, realising the inevitability of their doom! however, the good old emotional blackmail number is played, and Kate decides to convince them all to go back and help save everyone in their home town, as it will shortly be destroyed by a plague of robots, especially Kates father, and John doesnt need too much convincing as he still hasn't gotten it into his head that they really cant do much about it. As far as the acting roles go, its not too disappointing, the cast has changed however, John connor is replaced with Nick Stahl, (man without a face) and Kate Brewster who is new to the saga is played by actress Clare danes (Romeo + Juliet). Whilst their acting ability is credible and Nick Stahl picks up the role of John very well, this films is without a doubt not short on the cheesy lines, my favourite being John addressing Kate after she tries a few kick punches and saying... "You remind me of my mother" hmm, cheers mate, just what every girl wants to hear. And of course who could have played the role of a mechanical robot who's only lines appear to be "GET OFF" OR "GET OUT" better, why of course, Arnie, he pulls off that wooden character so so well! T-X, the new improved terminator of the future is typically a very young and beautiful woman, with blonde hair and lots up front, she is played by Kristanna Loken, an up and coming actress who really couldn't have pulled a better and more exciting part, her character is interesting and keeps you on the edge of your seat as she defies all with her incredible strength and seductress ways!
I did notice a few holes in the storyline aswell which really bugged me, the tyical, "well its a movie" liners. For example, one scene which is interesting is when John and Kate attempt to defeat T-X by turning on an extremely powerful magnetic field inside a special magnet chamber (dont quote me on that), the result is fried T-X as her liquid metal body becomes fused against the magnet, John and Kate make their escape but soon enough T-X is back, how did that happens, perhaps as John was leaving he felt a twinge of guilt run through him and thought, ah what the hell, i'll turn it off, give us a head start! ok ok, shes a very powerful terminator who cannot be eliminated, why is it then that she gets blown to smitherines very easily at the end, tell me that!
The only remotely interesting and clever theory in this movie is the Skynet storyline, Skynet is basically a computer system that has been around for so long and become so advanced it has become, self aware, which means that its decided instead of being run by human beings its gonna start reeping havock amongst the human race and control the world, unaware to all humans, when the chips are down, they turn to skynet, allowing it to try and put a few problems to right, only instead it begins to take control. shame Arnie never thought to mention this at the beginning of the film, because then it really could have all been avoided, o well!
Well, ive probably said enough about the story, if you enjoy extremely extravagant special effects which involve huge cranes crushing buildings and cars then this movie is fantastic, if you were eagerly anticipating the "rise of the machines", then its quite sad, i don't regret going to see this movie, i feel they could have done so much more with it, they had the credibility behind them to make this movie a success, but seem to have bailed out at the last minute!
But, of course, you've got to watch this movie, because its Terminator 3! all i can say, is i need closure, so there'd better be a T4.
