Schwarzenegger at the very apex of his Hollywood celebrity and James Cameron at the peak of his perfectionist directorial powers. Nothing the star did subsequently measured up to his iconic performance here, spouting legendary catchphrases and wielding weaponry with unparalleled cool; and while the director had an even bigger hit with the bloated and sentimental Titanic, few followers of his career would deny that Cameron's true forte has always been sci-fi action. With an incomparably bigger budget than its 1984 precursor, T2 essentially reworks the original scenario with envelope-stretching special effects and simply more, more, more of everything. Yet, for all its scale, T2 remains at heart a classic sci-fi tale: robots running amok, time travel paradoxes and dystopian future worlds are recurrent genre themes, which are here simply revitalised by Cameron's glorious celebration of the mechanistic. From the V-twin roar of a Harley Fat Boy to the metal-crunching Steel Mill finale, the director's fascination with machines is this movie's strongest motif: it's no coincidence that the character with whom the audience identifies most strongly is a robot. Now that impressive but unengaging CGI effects have come to over-dominate sci-fi movies (think of The Phantom Menace), T2's pivotal blending of extraordinary live-action stuntwork and FX looks more and more like it will never be equalled. --Mark Walker

Advantages: Excellent plot and action! Disadvantages: I'm not very keen on the added bits on this DVD......
The Terminator was a massive success (Read my review for more info) and so it was inevitable that a second film would be made. But could it possibly beat the brilliance of the origional film? For starters, Terminator 2: Judgement Day has a different feel to it. Rather than being a horror (I think it's a horror anyway....) like the origional, James Cameron decided to make the sequel an action packed masterpiece! The other major difference is that ... ...the Resistance captured a Terminator of the same model as the one that the Machines sent before. After a bit of programming, the Terminator is now a loyal protector of John Connor, the soon to be leader of the Resistance. So who is the baddie? Bring on Robert Patrick. He plays the part of the T1000, a far better model than the previous machine. It has the ability to change shape as it is made out of liquid metal. It can change into anything it touches ...

...of the low budget The Terminator in 1984, it was only a matter of time before a follow-up was made. Unfortunately, legal wranglings over the rights meant that the film wasn't possible until 1991, and also meant that there was an extremely short timescale for a production of this size as the release date had been set for the July 4th weekend.
The delay in making the follow-up had allowed Cameron to make Aliens and, more importantly, The Abyss, which ... ...Cameron to create a new Terminator which could change shape and imitate living creatures. Taking things further on from The Abyss the effects would have to be able to imitate human movement. To give the effects artists at ILM time to create the new technology all scenes that were to include CGI shots had to be filmed at the start of the shooting schedule.
The story of the original Terminator was one of the most original sci-fi stories of recent ...

Judgment Day Review ofTerminator 2 - Judgment Day DVDby

Advantages: Everything Disadvantages: None
...the box office smash hit, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Linda Hamilton. I must say this was my favourite film out of the trilogy, the storyline, characters; special effects for that era really made this a rock solid action film. After a 7 year wait, fans were gifted with a sequel that was well worth the illustrious wait.
Brief Recap of the first film:
Let's take a brief recap of what happened in the first film. ... ...ended happily and sadly, the terminator was destroyed and Sarah managed to escape, however her lover Kyle dies.
General Plot for Terminator 2:
The sequel picks up ten years on from the first film. We have a new addition to the Connor family in the form of a 10 year old wild child John Connor, who one day will lead the human resistance who fill, fight the machines. Between the first and second film, Sarah was involved in stopping technology advancement, ...

...Furlong) and a reprogrammed T800 terminator machine (Arnold Schwarzenneger) who has been sent back in time to the year 1994 (By John Connor himself) to protect him from an advanced T1000 mimetic poly-aloy terminator (Robert Patrick). Sarah Conner meanwhile has been locked up in a psychiatric hospital run by the slimy Doctor Silberman. The main story is a tale of friendship between John Connor and his Terminator almost along the same lines of say ... ...extremely believable and dramatic. Terminator 2 has moments of suspense which are further enhanced by some great performances from Edward Furlong, Sarah Connor and of course Arnold Schwarzenneger (In what must be his favourite role.).
The soundtrack by Brad Feidel is also superb, it's use is subtle and is never overpowering. The ILM special effects still look fantastic even though the film is now 10 years old!
The DVD comes rammed with many features ...

A kick-ass DVD Review ofTerminator 2 - Judgment Day DVDby

Advantages: Stunning array of DVD extras married to a great film Disadvantages: The R2 version is missing an important feature from the R1 disc
...of the first film; a Terminator cyborg is sent back in time from a post-apocalyptic future to assassinate the future leader of the human resistance against the machines. The humans send their own protector, and battle is joined. This time around, there are two cyborgs, Arnie’s T-800, and the more sophisticated T-1000, played by Robert Patrick (Die Hard 2, The X-Files, Charlie’s Angels 2). Where the first film had a mere $6 million to ... ...who haven’t seen the first Terminator needn’t worry; one of James Cameron’s central tenets when making sequels is that the audience needn’t have seen the first film. Sure enough, the opening twenty minutes reprise the plot of the first movie, bringing us back up to speed.
The film has some fun playing with the audience’s expectations; in the first film, Arnie’s Terminator was the villain, and for the early part ...

...It is very seldom that a sequel is equal to, much less better than, the original movie. The second Terminator movie is defintaely better than the original. Arnold Schwartzinagger (or however you spell it!!) has a running policy of never making sequels, but he made an exception here after seeing the script. The machines try again to stop the humans by sending an advanced terminator back to kill John Conner, but the humans again are able to send their own unit back, this time a reprogrammed terminator, to stop the machines' plans. Arnie plays a great hero and this movie comes out as one of the best in the genre ever produced....

Advantages: Great special effects, and greater plot. Disadvantages: None.
...By far one of the best films I have ever seen, with the film as exciting and worrying all the way though. The scene of the world being destroyed was a beautifully created one, and one that I wish never to see. Although Arnie was the baddie in the first, he returns as the goodie in this one, trying to protect John O'Conner and his mother while trying to Terminate the T-2000, who is out to kill them all, and change history.
I think this has to be one of the best films ever made, and the moral and social conflicts of this film are far too over looked.
One of Camerons best....
