They are then followed by the galaxy police detectives Kiyone and Mihoshi, one who is a ditsy blond and the other a quick tempered official. To make matters worse Ryokos biological mother/ super genius Washu is re awoken and likes nothing better than to use Tenchi as her personal guinnea pig

The Tenchi muyo (not muya) series was originally released as an OVA or short series in the early 90s followed by two longer television series each running for around twenty six episodes each. Each series was followed by a movie. There was then a later OVA produced followed by a spin off series series following the life of Tenchi's school mate. There was also a spin off featuring Sasami as a super hero or in Japanese terms pretty
magical girl.

The first movie is all about Tenchi's family. A super A+ class criminal escapes from Galaxy Police high security prison in order to get revenge on the Jurai Royal family who were responsible for his imprisonment. He targets Tenchi's mother so the gang have to travel back in time in order to save Tenchi from disappearing altogether. It has a very back to the future theme. The animation is really great as are the special effects. The series really has some funny moments which is true to the Tenchi plot. The music is very classical sounding also and works well with the plot. The English voice over cast is pretty spot on with the lip syncs also. Though the Japanese language with subtitles is probably more accurate.

The second movie is about a mutant from Jurai who is holding a grudge against Tenchi's grandpa ever since they were children on the planet Jurai. She creates a daughter of darkness using her and Tench' s genetic information. This girl dosent seem to remember anything when she arrives on earth apart from the fact she is Tenchi's daughter. The plot is highly based on Christmas and family, all the gang become friends with the new arrival and want her to come live with them permanently even if they are secretly jealous of the attention Tenchi gives her. The mutant is constantly brain washing her new daughter into dragging Tenchi back to her dark world. The animation for this was good but the plot was quite predictable and short, some of the English voice actors went over the top a bit and were quite annoying at times. Though the music is quite well themed and the special effects are good. There are more adult themes in this one than the first movie.

The third movie has a totally different animation style altogether. It is based between time, another past lover of Tenchi's grandpa traps Tenchi in the world of her head. Tenchi is much older in this movie and there are a lot more serious and adult themes in the movie, also unlike the tv series it is very serious. Tenchi forgets he ever belonged to another world and Ryoko and Ayeka are beside themselves with grief. The animation as I said before is different but not necessarily bad, the characters do keep their personality but the music is a little more dramatic. The plot is pretty good though and it isn't a bad watch. The voice syncs are good for English but again for more accurate interpretation the Japanese language with English subtitles is better.

The collection also features a tenchi encyclopedia which contains all the character profiles, lists of merchandise, family trees and dubbing lists, which is a nice touch especially for really big fans of the series.

Overall I would say 15+ age rating as there is nudity and sex scenes in the last two movies.
