Advantages: Great conservation centre, especially for otters. Disadvantages: You have to like otters, and hilly walks, to fully appreciate it.
*** Our Discovery of this Excellent Centre ***
I have had a few holidays in the Peak District, but despite the Chestnut Centre being well advertised in the area, I was in no hurry to visit it. This is because when I had seen otters in captivity before, in various locations, they were only active briefly at feeding time and their enclosures stank of fish.
Then Morrisons gave us some Buy One Get One Free vouchers for days out, as a reward for shopping there, so me and hubby decided we would use one at the Chestnut Centre.
We were pleasantly surprised at the lovely time we had there!
*** The Estate and Wildlife ***

Gavin Maxwell, author of ?Ring of Bright Water?, and of course ?The Otter?s Tale?, died in September 1969. The old rowan tree, too, has died. But it still stands, stark and lifeless against the black-green of the encroaching conifer plantation.
Scrambling down the precarious ...

The Otter's Adventure is an interactive CD game for the PC by Softkey International. Softkey produce a lot of cheap CD software for the PC which you will find in your local supermarket, and some of it is seriously pants. This one however, is a winner with the kids.
You get to perform experiments, play games, explore different environments and all whilst enjoying the privilege of being pestered by a cartoon otter, Ozzie, with an irritating American accent.
The main thrust of the software is to teach kids about ecology and the environment, which it does in quite a responsible way without losing their interest.
This is one you can happily leave them playing with at the PC (although I'm not sure its a substitute for spending quality time with your children). It seems to appeal across a wide range of ages, to.
