The movie is based on a true story and the teachings of Pierre Dulaine, a ballroom teacher who chose to help students who were uninspired and unmotivated. He taught them about respect, trust and that they can achieve anything that they want to if they try.
The movie tells the story of what Pierre Dulaine did. He goes to see the principle of the local high school whose car was smashed up in front of him. He offers his time and skills as he wants to help make a difference. He is given detention duty, but he turns this into his own ballroom dancing class. In his own ways he gets the pupils to listen to him and to respect him, others and themselves. Although ballroom dancing is not what these pupils are into, they are forced to give it a try. They later mix the ballroom dancing with their own style, hip hop, and make up their own dance. Pierre inspires them and is there for them when they need him. The PTA however is not happy about his and he is forced to explain himself but he wins them over by showing them how he is teaching the pupils about respect and trust through dance. Watch to see how the pupils do and how Pierre wins them over.
People see Pierre's class as a waste of time, trying to teach those that don't want to learn something. They think that instead of teaching them ballroom dancing, they should be taught something that they could use and that will truely teach them something. Pierre shows these people that ballroom dancing teached you about trust, not just for others, but for yourself and through trust you learn to respect, and women who respect themselves are unlikely to let themselves to get knocked-up and for men, it teaches them how to respect women and how to handle them with respect and this will stop them from jus knocking women up. Pierre explains how ballroom dancing is not just about learning to dance, but from it you can learn life long lessons.
The movie is truely inspirational and something everyone should watch.
The acting in the movie is outstanding, from the way the actors and actresses act to the way that they dance. Antonio Banderas makes an outstanding performance in this movie and does Pierre Dulaine proud by showing the world how he started of a movement. Pierre's classes are now taught in over 42 schools in the New York area to over 1200 students.
The music featured in the movie various from swing and tango to hip hop. There is something in there for everyone. There is even some songs where hip hop is mixed with swing to keep things interesting. Watch as the music is used to make the movie what it is.
