I chose TaiChi as I have tried it once before at a health spa, many years ago (it was on a weekend break I won- in my fit and healthy days, lol). Sorry, I digress again. Back on course -
~~ What is TaiChi? ~~
It is an ancient form of Martial Arts and centres round the Chi (life force/energy) that flows through the body. You do this with by using slow controlled movements, controlled breathing and postures to increase this energy flow, helping to relieve stress and improve your well being.

I found this dvd to be very informative and with over 7 hours of material on two dvds contains a lot of information regarding TaiChi. The dvds are also filmed live so the infomation is easily undertood with no voice overs.
Both Yang and Chen style TaiChi are covered with a dvd specifically for each style and there is also a basic Qi Gong style covered.
On both of the dvds, there is a section for basic training which covers the basic hand and feet movements as well as basic footwork for that particular style of TaiChi. There is then a section for all of the applications for the TaiChi style which shows Master Wong demonstrating the techniques on a student wearing full body so that the techniques can be performed with proper force.

or twice a week. The form or movements must be practised preferably 4-6 times a week. This is how much I practise, for about half an hour every time (not including warm up, streching, cooling down). Although it must be said that learning the form does discipline you a lttle and you do learn to like it. It is said to be addictive...in that you will always want to improve it.
In order to learn TaiChi, I really do suggest that you go to a certified teacher. I do not recommend books or DVD's saying that you can learn the form through them, even though I have never tried them. I'm saying this, because if you are doing a movement incorrectly you won't have anyone telling you that you are doing it wrong....and beleive me, that is indispensable.
