Hi I'm Leanne, 22 from Huddersfield. my reviews are also posted on Dooyoo under the same username- leanne8686.
I don't get on here very often, when I do I tend to post a few reviews I have written and saved in Word on the same day.

"A bleeding masterpiece"
Sweeney Todd (The demon barber of Fleet street) to give the film its full name was released just less than a year ago, the film was showing at cinemas from the 25th January and I remember the queues were huge!
Set in 19th century London, Sweeney Todd tells the story of a wronged man; Benjamin Barker, he is just returning (illegally) from deportation to Australia for a crime he didn't commit, he is helped by a young sailor named Anthony. He has been away 15 years. He was living a happy life with his wife Lucy and their baby daughter Johanna. The judge at the trial had his sights set on Lucy and sent Benjamin away so he could have his wicked way.
He visits the Pie Shop of an old friend; Mrs Lovett and she explains that after he left Lucy killed herself but his daughter is now living with Judge Turpin, she lets him rent the small room above her shop and he opens it up as a barbers (he used to be a famously good barber in London) He sets out to find the judge who wronged him, caused his wives suicide and now had his daughter (Johanna is by now a teenager)
Cue revenge, sharp razors, close calls and even closer shaves.
The film is a dark one; not surprising really as this is a Tim Burton film. The bright red blood doesn't look real against the many black and white scenes but it's still enough to make you cringe at times. Oh and the strange addition to this horror film; it's a musical. I must admit I was dubious about how sing-songs work alongside a slasher flick but somehow it does and the two combine to tell a chilling story though none of them sing very well!
The casting is spot on, Johnny Depp does an incredibly spooky....but somehow still sexy Sweeney Todd and Helena Bonham Carter is equally disturbing as the crazy Mrs Lovett. Alan Rickman plays the evil Judge Turpin and carries this part off well. But I don't think the film really needed the odd performance from Sacha Baron Cohen as all I can think when I see him is Ali G!
With scary films the ending is usually easy to see coming but I think in this case the twist is unexpected and really shocked me, so sad too.
You've posted this as a DVD review, but not mentioned the DVD features. Are there any extras, what are they and are they any good?
