Supernatural season 1 DVD Box set

Supernatural a series that was aired, I believed on ITV 1 (however I never saw it while it was showing but borrowed the 6 disc box set when it came out on DVD).

One episode one we see two young boys, one a toddler and one a baby, when the baby stirs in the middle of the night the mother ventures into the nursery to find out what's wrong. She see's a dark figure over the cot and is then mysteriously pushed up against the wall and moves up the wall and stops on the ceiling above the cot where she bursts into flames.
The father manages to get the baby to the older boy who runs outside clutching his brother for dear life and soon the father emerges from the burning house but the mother is dead.

This sets up the whole story for the series. The father (john Winchester) dedicates his whole life to being a demon hunter "if its supernatural we kill it" and the boys are trained demon killers.
Dean the eldest brother is a true demon hunter, wanting to please his father and follow in his footsteps but Sam the younger brother who remembers little of the night his mother died, wants to go to collage and have a life away from the supernatural. So when Dean shows up at the collage where Sam is staying with his girlfriend, Sam is not very pleased how ever dean tells him that there father has been on a hunting trip and he hasn't been home foe a while and Sam knows something must be wrong. He leaves his girlfriend for a day or so to help dean find what ever had his father but when he returns after a night of hard demon hunting he finds his girlfriend on the ceiling above his bed the same way his mother was and she too burst into flames.
Now Sam wants to find his father and put a end to the demon that killed the two women in his life. Sam and Dean are on a mission, but with nothing more then their weapons, a Car and their fathers scrap book will they ever find Mr Winchester?
Season one shows the brothers travelling across the country dealing with different supernatural problems each week. Everything from vampires to ghosts is covered in the DVD.

Episode 1 -Pilot "Take me home" a woman wonders on the highway taking young men who offer to help her to their deaths, but the Winchester brothers are not falling for her charms. And find their first clue to their father's whereabouts.

Episode 2 - "Wendigo"this episode takes the boys deep into the woods where they have to deal with a cannibal sprit of American folk law.

Episode 3 - "Dead in the water" the boys need to find out if a series of drowning near by are coincidence or caused by a evil spirit of someone drowned.

Episode 4 - "Phantom traveller" Phantom on a air plane, what ever will the boys have to deal with next??

This is the end on disc 1

Episode 5 - "Bloody Mary" people who say 'Bloody Mary' 3 times in the mirror end up getting their eyes gouged out, can the brothers help?

Episode 6 -"Skin" a demon steps into the body's of anyone he likes in order to commit crimes but will Sam know if its his brother or if it's the demon?

Episode 7 -"Hook man" this is no peter pan; a two hundred year old church parishioner is trying kill his parish.

Episode 8 -" BUG'S" Why is there always ones about killer bugs??

End of disc 2

Episode 9 -" Home" Sam begins to have visions about the family who lives in the his childhood home (But didn't that burn down? a large error there I think), can sam stop the family having the same fate that his family had? And will there be any clues to his fathers whereabouts here?

Episode 10-"ASYLUM" An out of use asylum that makes people go mad once inside. Then don't go inside boys!

Episode 11- "Scarecrow" a scarecrow killing people do you think the writers have been watching jeepers creepers??

End of disc 3

Season 1 part 2
Episode 12 - "Faith" a faith healer that really works but there is a catch, someone else must die.

Episode 13-"route 666" a killing truck smashes road users of the road on to their deaths.

Episode 14-"Nightmare" someone dies and Sam and Dean must investigate (could just be a death guys)

Episode 15-"the benders" No gay jokes please!!!

End of disc 4

Episode 16-"shadow"is the pretty young lady interested in Sam for all the wrong reasons??

Episode 17-"Hell house" every town has a haunted house but this one is a killer!!

Episode 18-"something wicked" a witch who knows more about the boys then they do.

Episode 19-"Providence" a painting that comes to life reeks havoc with the people who own it.

End of disc 5

Episode 20 -"Dead mans blood" the boys meet their dad to help track down some vampires.

Episode 21-"Salvation" here is that cute girl again but this time she wants more then Sam is prepared to give.

Episode 22-"Devils trap" this is the season finale but will they finally get the demon that killed Mrs Winchester and Jessica or will it get them??

I really wanted to hate this, its made by the same people that made 'charmed' and 'The OC' and other American stuff that always seemed fake a phoney to me. The Supernatural really grew on me, like a large spot that I couldn't squeeze.
It is good but the writers seem to have copied ideas from shows like Angel and Buffy and different horror movies so nothing is really original. Almost every week there is a story I can find from some other show but with their own take on it. If you don't expect to much (like credible story's) this is a good show but could be better with better stories lets hope season 2 (on itv1 now) is better. All that said I still recommend it.

Special effects/make up
This is ok, the kind of thing you'd expect to see on 'Buffy the vampire slayer' not a Hollywood block buster but then this isn't a blockbuster and is aimed at people who watched Buffy. The make up and effects aren't exceptional but they are effective.

Acting
Dean (Jensen Ackles) is great. He started with guest spots in 'Dawson's Creek' and 'Smallville' and soon landed the role in 'Supernatural'. I think he plays the perfect part. A big brother to Sam and the prefect son the John. Witty and strong, caring and brave, the prefect demon hunter. (and not bad looking to boot!!)
Sam (Jared Padalecki) never did much before supernatural, he piloted a show that was never picked up and then won the role in supernatural. Again he is great for the show. He fits the bill perfectly. He is strong but silent. He has the better character of the two, getting visions and loosing his girlfriend gives him more depth. (oh and he's not bad looking either)

Extra's
NONE. This is a disappointment. A dvd box set with 6 disc should have some extras but this has nothing.

This does sound like it would be entertaining but I don't think it's something I'd ever really want to keep watching.
