For the first time, all four Superman movies are available on DVD, starring Christopher Reeve as the man of steel.
I am sure many of you are familiar with these movies. And just before the new Superman movie appears in our cinemas next year, they have decided to release this box set.
A little about the four movies if you don't already know -
Superman The Movie-
Just before planet Krypton's doomed existence, Jor-El (Marlon Brando) has sent his one and only son to the planet earth. Being under a new sun he develops superhuman powers and becomes Superman. Arch enemy Lex Luthor (Gene Hackmen), attempts too put a quick end too Superman's reign with deadly Kryptonite, and threatens California with weapons of mass destruction.
Cast: Christopher Reeve, Gene Hackman, Jackie Cooper and Margot Kidder Directed by: Richard Donner
Superman 2-
In this sequel Superman can no longer hide his love from Louis Lane, and gives up his super powers to live as a normal human being to be with her. But soon after his decision three Super Villains descend upon earth. Each villain has the same power he has, and along with the return of Lex Luthor they threaten to take over the world. Superman must find away too gain his powers back and sacrifice his love, to save the world.
Cast: Christopher Reeve, Gene Hackman, Jackie Cooper, Margot Kidder, and Terrance Stamp Directed by: Richard Leicster
Superman 3-
This time around Kryptonite has made Superman turn nasty, and while he is no longer interested in saving the planet, weirdo genius Gus Gorman (Richard Pryor) designs a super computer with the help of a greedy millionaire Ross Webster (Robert Vaughn), but the computer has decided to think for itself terminator style and becomes deadly. Will superman regain his super status and save the planet once more?
Cast: Christopher Reeve, Robert Vaughn, Richard Pryor, Jackie Cooper and Margot Kidder Directed by Richard Leicster
Superman 4 Quest For Peace-
The world is corrupt with Nuclear arms race and earth is on the brink with disaster. However Superman decides too rid the world of all nuclear weapons, which does not sit well with arch enemy Lex Luthor, who creates his own super villain, Nuclear Man, who's only desire is too destroy Superman. Before Superman can continue his quest for peace, he must defeat his new threat and capture Lex Luthor once again.
Cast: Christopher Reeve, Gene Hackman, Jackie Cooper and Margot Kidder Directed By: Sidney J Furie
I know that was just a brief introduction on the movies, but I am sure you all know the basics as they are donkies years old now.
The movies themselves are a bit cheesy, but hey, their super hero flicks so they are supposed to be. They are still good fun, and the kids are bound too love them.
Christopher Reeve who died in October last year, was the actor selected from 200 candidates to play the super hero. The 1978 film 'Superman' spawned three sequels and Christopher played the title character in each one.
Sadly Christopher became paralysed after a horse riding accident in May 1995, but still remained a 'Superman' in many fans hearts.
The new box set DVD's also contain bonus features such as 'the history of Superman'.

With all the superhero hype we have now, it's no wonder we are getting these sort of box set releases. A new Superman movie, current title being 'Superman Lives' is hitting cinemas next year with new actor Brandon Rough donning the blue tights and red cape, which is no wonder after the success of the remake of Batman.
This box set is not a bad buy, especially for all you DVD collectors, they were good films in their time, and now digitally restored you can have fun watching them all over again. For those of you with children that are fans of the whole super hero thing, this will keep them quiet for a little while.

Good, informative review! I only own Superman 1 & 2 on DVD as I thought that 3 & 4 were... well... nowhere near as good. When I see Christopher Reeve as Superman, it always makes me feel sad for the loss of him. Even when I saw Superman Returns (which I thought was really good) recently, even seeing the relatively unknown Brandon Routh in the role made me miss Christopher Reeve but Routh did such a good job in the roles of both Clark Kent and Superman that I'm sure Christopher Reeve would have approved. On an ironic note: John Glenn who played Clark Kent's adoptive father, Jonathon Kent and dies of a heart-attack in the first film - died in real-life last week aged an impressive 90 years old!!! D.
Superman The MovieThe Academy Award winning adventure also now includes eight minutes ... more
