Superhero Movie DVD

Advantages: Entertaining superhero fare
Disadvantages: Ultimate reworking of characters a distraction for older fans

...they are recruited to fight. All in all an entertaining movie that gave my children a fix of superhero action while their waiting for the next spiderman movie and enough character development to engage without distracting from the film. It would have benefitted from a proper Supervillain to challenge the team as well as the alien invaders storyline however perhaps that will be addressed in the next movie. With the glut of live action superhero movies over the last few years with still more to come boasting such superb special effects that anything seems possible the production of an animated superhero movie may seem a backward step. However don't be put off by this without the long history of comic books there wouldn't have been the recent spate of superhero blockbusters and this animated version of perhaps the most successful superhero team comic ever... Advantages: Entertaining superhero with superb soundtrack supplied by Queen
Disadvantages: Poor special effects and production

...This film is not a top Hollywood blockbuster and does not win any acting awards, but if you want to watch a movie to give you and your friends a laugh while drinking a few pints, this is the movie for you. The film is intended to be a serious superhero adventure about an American footballer, Flash Gordon, save the world. Unfortunately, the props and costumes look silly and there are to many men in tight pants (that may be up your street!), but all this just gives you the laughs and enjoyment. I love this movie because the characters look ridiculous in bright and colourful outfits, the dialogue is poor but produces funny one liners. And of course there's the excellent soundtrack from Queen. So spend the night in with a few mates and a few more beers and sit back for fun, entertainment and the best superhero ever!!!!... ...Is it just me or is a movie of every Superhero going to be released? Now don't get me wrong, I'm a huge comic book fan and love the idea of all my favourite comic book characters coming to life on the big screen but I think Hellboy is a step too far. The story is of a demon child who is transported across dimensions and ends up on earth to be raised by a government team of scientists. When trouble arises the special unit is sent in to deal with it, all the while trying to keep their identities hidden. However, Hellboy's unusually large stone hand also happens to be a key to open hell on earth. With the eternally resurrecting Rasputin on his tail can Hellboy save the woman he loves and Mankind? I find Hellboy unconvincing as a Superhero and can't help feeling the movie is being made on the back of the success of movies such as X... Read review
