'Superbad' is a teen comedy film that follows the lives of two teenage guys - Seth and Evan- who are desperate to shake off their "uncool" status and lose their virginity before heading to college after summer. When they are invited to a big party at school, they offer to buy alcohol and seem on their way to what they want. With the help of their friend Fogell aka "McLovin" (who is even uncooler than Seth and Evan it seems), they set off to buy the drinks. A hilarious scene follows involving Fogell unveiling his new fake ID - one of my personal favourites! As predicted, the boys' party plans do not go smoothly and they end up in a bit of a situation. The final ending is a happy one though :)
Advantages of this film - the cast and acting is great, in my opinion, particularly the characters of Fogell and Evan. It really is believable that these guys are just slightly odd, high school misfits. The plot is easily relatable to teens which is what makes it so funny - the fear of being caught out trying to buy alcohol, the desire to be invited to parties and the all-important topic of sex. It really doesn't leave much out, ot try to disguise the woes of being a teenager and the humour is often so bad that it's good. In general, guys might prefer the film to females, considering that the conversation often involves crude sex talk and is generally gross at times ("she used my leg as a tampon" :S )
Disadvantages - this film won't be to everyone's tastes obviously. It seems quite clearly aimed at older teenagers and younger adults. The plot is not groundbreaking or 'deep' in any way and the humour is often very crude at times (particularly the point where Seth describes his childhood penis obsession..).
The DVD includes quite a few special features, for example, deleted scenes and outtakes, as with most DVDs, and is good value for money.
Overall, if you are looking for a teen comedy and have a fun, slightly immature side, you will probably love this!
