Superbad is rate 15, it's from the people who brougt you 40-year old virgin and knocked up... which suggested to me it would be very good, but unfortunatly I was disappointed.
The screen play is written by Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg and in my opnion there are good points and bad points about the screen play. It is, in parts, humourous however the jokes tend to be quite crude and sometimes make you cringe! Yet I did laugh out loud on a few occassions. The characters have been well designed and are believable teenagers!
The acting is of a good quality, in particular Michael Cera who plays Evan, won Breakthrough Artist Award from Austin film critics and and Chicago film critics awared him Most Promising Performer. All three main characters: Michael Cera, Johan Hill and Christopher Mintz-Plasse were nominated from MTV awards and Teen Choice awards, and although none were successful in winning, the nomination in itself shows the quality of the acting. The actors really make you believe they are losers!!
Summary of Plot: Seth (Hill) & Evan (Cera) are best friends coming to the end of their High School Years and, similar to American Pie, the boys do not want to go to college as virgins. Being typical American Geeks, this is not an easy task since they do not have a large social circle and are not invited to parties! Deciding that supplying alcohol to a party is the answer to their problems, the boys enlist their friend Fogell (Mintz-Plasse) and his fake ID to get their alcohol.... But it was never going to be THAT simple. The three teens face variour problems during one adverturous night including be-friending incompetent cops (Knocked Up's Seth Rogen and Saturday Night Live's Bill Hader), theft and being held at gun-point (amoungst other unthinkable issues which I will not spoil for you!)
My Opinion The film is 1 hr 50mins, the majority of the film takes place during the one night (with only the last 15 minutes being after this one night) and therefore I found this to be too long with very little going on. The characters do have a very adventurous night, but I found myself being bored by the amount of problems within which they occured. The chracters are realistic geeks, but the story-line is not realistic. It is a funny film, but the jokes are not enough to make me like the film. I also found the ending quite an anti-climax after the adventurous night the boys have been on, the ending didn't quite fit with the film! (not that I can say anymore without spoiling it for those who wish to watch it!!!!) Overall the story is not that great in my opnion and the humour is not for the faint hearted! It really is superbad!!
