I have been reading a lot of Guilty Pleasure ops since this was started as a challenge some weeks ago by Ciao member Piagetclot in the Ciao UK eGroup. The idea is that you will review a product or service which you would normally not publicly admit to own or use, ie. to let the reader into a part of the "dark side" of yourself. I must say that I have been utterly disappointed by what I have read: Spice Girls albums, frozen pizza, toilet paper - that may all be embarrassing, but I'm sure you all have a lot more sinful material to write about.
YOU ARE ALL A BUNCH OF FEARFUL CHICKEN!
So here comes my guilty pleasure, something I hope my next girlfriend or employer won't find out about (hope they don't join Ciao). Forgive me all, for I have sinned. I know this is in the wrong category, but the product name is the only one which would allow me to explicitly say what I am up to with this opinion without violating Ciao's terms and conditions:
STRIPTEASE!
And because you have come to expect travel reviews from me, I will once again lead you on a journey, to the red light districts of Warsaw and Istanbul. This review is a show off between the two cities most frequented striptease clubs:
In the left corner, dressed in a white negligée: SOPHIA CLUB, Warsaw
vs.
CRAZY HORSE CLUB, Istanbul in the right corner, dressed in thin red lingerie.
Before I go on with this op, and because maybe I am a fearful chicken, too, I have to put things into perspective: I have been working in one of the roughest industries around, media and advertising. And my job in the international finance department has let me participate in merger talks all around Europe, though mainly in Turkey and Poland. Rarely have I seen a big mergers & acquisitions deal which was not celebrated afterwards by the merger partners in a frivolous manner. This usually starts with a dinner at one of the best restaurants in town, than moves on to a bar, then to a striptease club, and then... - well, I will spare you the last part. Thus I have never committed these sins deliberately, but was forced into them by business habits.
BUT I ENJOYED EVERY BIT OF IT!
So here we go with a review of the red light districts in Istanbul or Warsaw in general, and Sophia and Crazy Horse clubs in particular.
-------------------- THE LOCAL SCENE --------------------
WARSAW: There are a handful of striptease bars spread around the city centre, all well known and very frequented, of which the Sophia is the largest and most famous. A very open scene. To whom that is not enough, there are around two dozens of venues in the suburbs which offer a more hands-on service. Ask your taxi driver for advice. Hotel concierges are also well informed and can help to provide ensuite service.
ISTANBUL: Short of a real red light district, Istanbul's striptease bars, of which the Crazy Horse is the best known, are hidden in the side streets of Cumhurriyet Caddesi, a main avenue near Taksim Square. The clubs are disguised as belly-dancing bars. Contact is made by guys who approach potential guests around Taksim. The same guys can also recommend girls who will provide a more personal service in your hotel room. The scene is dominated by girls from Russia, Belarus and Ukraine, thus the Turkish saying "To fly a Mig".
---------------- ATTRACTIONS ----------------
SOPHIA: The centrepiece of Sophia is a large bar which can facilitate around 150 guests. The round bar counter is around thirty meters long and two metres wide, and is used by the (beautiful) girls as a stage. Eye contact is made between guest and girl, who will then "dance" on the counter in front of the guest for the duration of one song from the DJ. This "dance" includes a full uncovering of her beauty, and an extensive presentation of her greatest attraction in two inches distance of the guest's nose.
CRAZY HORSE: Guests are seated around a centre stage on which very pretty girls alternatingly perform belly-dancing and striptease. The show lasts around two hours and is repeated three times per night. IF you want to make personal contact with the girls, you have to invite them to a bottle of champagne at the bar.
In both places, the performing girls CANNOT be hired for other services, although in the Crazy Horse they may tell you otherwise.
--------- PRICES ---------
SOPHIA: The entry fee is 30 Polish Zloty, which is around 5 £. For a single performance the girl will collect a reasonable 50 Zloty. A beer comes at around 2 £, cocktails at around 4 £.
CRAZY HORSE: All prices here are in US Dollars. The entry fee of 20 $ includes the show and a free drink. Extra beers cost 4 $, spirits 8 $. It only gets expensive when a girl asks you to invite her for a drink. Champagne is obligatory for that, which comes at 200 $ for a bottle of Moet Chandon.
----------------------- BUSINESS PRACTICE -----------------------
SOPHIA: No hidden practice here. What you pay is what you get.
CRAZY HORSE: A real rip off place! They try to get you drunk, then invite you to the bar to meet the girls. The girls promise to go home with you, if you spend the rest of the evening with them in the club, over a few bottles of Champagne. Depending on how drunk and desperate you are, this may cost you several hundred dollars. Never come here alone, best in company of Turkish friends or colleagues who can sort it out for you. Of course the girls never keep their promises.
---------- VERDICT ----------
The red light scene of Warsaw is much to be preferred over that of Istanbul. Open-minded, clean, affordable and no hidden clauses. But then again, you would never do this kind of thing anyway, would you? Errr.....GOTCHA!
Advantages: A bit of nudity Disadvantages: The story & acting
I saw this film when living in hotel staff accommodation, it was on the free movie channels. It's about Demi Moore stripping, Burt Reynolds watching, and a custody case for a little girl. The story itself is pointless, and doesn't really go anywhere. The whole film is just an excuse to perve at Demi Moore taking her clothes off, so we can all stare at her obviously fake breasts. Burt Reynolds has made some terrible films in his time (Boogie Nights ...

Advantages: See Demi do some groovy moves around the pole. Disadvantages: This movie is really crap and I woudn't bother renting it!
Sure, Demi Moore worked hard to get her body into ship shape condition for this movie, only to find that she's gonna get oggled by Burt Reynolds.
Demi plays Erin Grant, who was working for the FBI until they found out that her former husband was a criminal, a sorry criminal, he makes a living by stealing wheelchairs and selling them on.
Her former husband has custody of her daughter, and she turns to stripping to raise the money to get her daughter ... ...at a place called 'The Eager Beaver', an appropriate name, where she dances around the pole and struts her stuff, this is where viewers can catch a glimpse of the million pound breasts.
Amongst those of the 'punters', is Burt Reynolds, who plays David Dilbeck, a crazy Florida Congressman that takes a creepy liking to Erin and hires her to do a private dance on his luxurious yacht.
Only, there is an election coming up and someone has a photo of ...

Who ever thought to pay Demi Moore $12 million for this film actually made a bad mistake. She is not even worth the money of a single ticket. The story is about a mother in a divorce battle, who strips to raise enough money to support and keep custody of her daughter. How unrealistic is that!!! Her acting is awful, but still beats that of her co-stars by a long way! The plot is as boring as the whole film and the only funny thing is to see an ageing ... ...have gathered, do not go and see the film if you can avoid it! On top of that the setting is bad, the directing is bad and the cinematography is bad – the only thing that deserves some acclaim how quickly Moore transformed her body from unshapely into mega fit. ...

Reviews which might be of interest for "Striptease (DVD)"
Advantages: Gentle stretching exercises, great for toning up wobly bits! Disadvantages: This might not suit you if you want something more energetic
recently bought Carmen Electra's Aerobics StripteaseDVD and it was not at all what I expected. It exceeded expectations! I love exercising and I love aerobics in particular and when my schedule forced me to drop out of aerobics class, I rummaged the shops for some energetic aerobics classes on DVD. I must admit that I hesitated for a while before buying it; Carmen Electra's reputation was not really encouraging for me to spend £6 on a DVD which claimed to help you "strip your way to fitness". The only reason why I ended up buying it was because I was jealous of Carmen Electra's legendary physique and wanted to see how she acquired it!
But a pleasant surprise awaited me when I started the DVD. For starters, it is really decent- no stripping or vulgar moves. Instead, Carmen (looking sweet for a change!), accompanied by two other ...
Advantages: Instruction is thorough, nice outfits Disadvantages: Barely anything on the DVD, too easy, not really a workout
I like to try and keep myself fit and toned, but I dislike exercise for the sake of exercising so I try to take some of the pain out of it by finding something I enjoy. I love dancing and dance music, hence I bought both DVDs in the Pump It Up series. I still adore both of those but I like a bit of variety so I thought this might make a nice change every now and then.
AEROBIC STRIPTEASE
This DVD is marketed as exactly what the title suggests - an aerobic workout with striptease elements to it. Now don't get excited, Carmen Electra won't be getting her kit off, it's more about the basic 'stripping moves' than the actual removing of clothes.
The DVD itself looks quite varied when you first insert it. There is a main menu with various different options and if you access the routines you see you have a choice of NINE. Wow, nine ...
Advantages: Great fun and a good workout! Disadvantages: Leaves you very sore!
What a great DVD!!
This DVD teaches you the basics of striptease routines, whilst working out your body.
You can choose from a variety of soundtracks for the exercises, which is a big plus because it caters for all music tastes.
The routines are simple, but Carmen didn't walk through them slow enough for beginners to really catch on.
However, it is a great workout, which left me really sore the next day and its such a boost for your confidence! It teaches you to move sexily and feel sexy, a big advantage!!
It is just one of a set of 5 DVDs, but this one is my favourite. As much as I used to hate Carmen Electra ( i dont tend to like porn stars!) she seems really genuine and friendly in the DVD and encourages you to keep going.
Its not one of those exhausting workouts that get monotonous and tiresome, its fun and a great ...
