I love Will Ferrell, and i have loved all films he has been in, as i usually think i have the same sort of humour as his films.
This is one of the worst films i have seen. I bought it on DVD as i didnt see it at the cinema, and thought anything with will ferrell would be good. I watched it with my girlfriend and her sister, and i had to appologise to them afterwards for making them watch it.
All the way through the film i was saying, any minute now, its going to get good, which they stopped beleiving when i said it through the credits.
I cant think of a catagory this film does well in, its not realistic, its not a good love story, its not funny, it was a complete waste of time.
I even considered giving the dvd away as i didnt want to have it in my collection.
All i had heard about the film was that it was someone writing a book and whatever they wrote came true to this person. Now to me, that is setting up a comedy, it is not in my opinion a synopsis for a serious film.
I dont think you could take a moral from the story either, 'careful what you write in a book incase it comes true' doesnt seem a very useful moral.
Anyone tells you that you should watch this film does not like you.

I see you've posted this as a DVD review, but you've not mentioned the DVD features. Are there any extras? If so, what are they and are they any good? If you want to change it to be posted as a "Film Only" review, this can be done by accessing "edit review" above the review and changing the drop down menu under the "Which format are you reviewing?" question at the bottom.

I take your point that other films of the same plot have been done in different genres, but what i meant was that when i saw the advert for the film, i thought that it had to be a comedy (unfortunately i didnt read any reviews, as i had to that point enjoyed all of will ferrels movies). Maybe it would have been better saying that with this plot and a lead who is famous for comedy, should only be a comedy film. As for the number 24, i havent seen it, (i thought it was 23) and i only thought it was by a person who kept seeing the same number everywhere, then someone told me it was rubish, so i didnt see it!

Good amusing review, though it needs more detail on the plot of the film - but I'm baffled by your expectation that a film about someone finding a book in which things about them keep coming true, should only be a comedy? I've seen several films with this same plot and they've all been horror or mystery films - most recent is 'The Number 24' with Jim Carrey (another case of a comedian playing a serious role!) which was out last year! : )

Advantages: A unique, intriguing and well-written story with some powerful performances. Disadvantages: the ending has been considered by some to be too neatly tied up.
Advantages: Easy to understand - documents ALL her life and her impact upon England as a ruler. Disadvantages: Some people might prefer a 'traditional' film adaptation.
Advantages: Witty, gritty, thrilling... the best gangster film I've seen in years. Disadvantages: A bit of a Deus ex machina ending, some predictable moments...negligable really
