The novel TomSawyer is set in Missouri, Mississippi,1849, the home town of Mark Twain the writer and is situated within the depths of the shabby little village of St. Petersburg. The writer tells of growing up within Southern America in Missouri and also illustrates the difficulties of living there. Tom is a immature 12 year-old boy who is always acting childlike by playing hooky and repeatedly tormenting his Aunt Polly. For example:"Y-o-u-u Tom!". In the novel "The Adventures of TomSawyer" the writer, Mark Twain uses a verity of different techniques to chart the main character, Tomsawyers change from boyhood to maturity in the novel. Techniques such as, setting, characterisation, themes and symbolism are important elements that Twain uses.
"The Adventures of TomSawyer" is about a young boy who is always getting up to no good. He finds out about love and life, then at the end of it all tom has passed into maturity.
The novel is set in a small Missouri town on the banks of the Mississippi river in the mid 1800's. We know this because it reads, "inspired by the splendour of his own act, he took without an outcry the most merciless flogging that eve Mr Dobbings had ever administered." in the story, Tom and Huck ( accompanied by Joe Harper ) fake their own deaths and flee to an island in the middle of the lake, where they believe themselves to be pirates. Also, Tom falls in love with a rather posh girl called Becky Thatcher and chases her endlessly, one time taking the blame for a petty crime she had commited herself.
He and Huck one day go treasure hunting in an old abandoned house where they come across Injun Joe, who has found treasure worth thousands of pounds. They spend the rest of the book hunting for Injun Joes treasure, But do they get it ?
I leave you on this question because I believe that if you havent read this book and already found the answer to my question, Then I believe you should get reading as its totally worth the time.
